Course Description: Strength training designed to build energy, endurance and strength to compliment cheerleading components such as stunting, tumbling and group work.

Course Learning Objectives:

  • To improve overall body strength;
  • To develop physical fitness through a sound body conditioning program;
  • to develop skills in the proper execution of the movements used in lifting and to gain knowledge of what muscles and body parts are involved;
  • To improve coordination, flexibility, and endurance.

Outcomes Assessment:

  • Daily oral feedback to you and/or others on work done in class.
  • Assessment of visible improvement in body composition and strength.
  • Visible improvement in stunting control and tumbling.
  • Improvement in endurance.
  • Self Evaluation of your achievement.

Evaluation Methods and Guidelines for Assignments:

To succeed in this class, you will need to:

1. Show up 

2. Work hard

3. Break a sweat!

4. Listen carefully to and apply all verbal corrections for improvement.

5. Follow directions the first time they are given. SAFETY FIRST.

6. DO NOT be in weight area without authorization. This will result in disciplinary measures. STUDENTS MUST BE IN A SUPERVISED AREA AT ALL TIMES.

7. Pay attention and participate.

8. Respect your fellow cheerleaders, equipment, and furnishings of all facilities.

9.Observe all rules in the CSI Athletic Handbook.

Dress Code:

All students must wear appropriate athletic footwear (shoes), socks, shorts or sweats (running pants), and a tshirt or sweatshirt. Incorrect dress will count just as notparticipating.

Dress Policy:

If you are sick or injured you must have a doctor’s note. During the time of illness or injury, other work may be assigned. Prior to the full return to cheer related activities a doctor’s release note must be on file with your coach as well as your athletic trainer.

Injuries:

Report any injuries sustained in class to the coach immediately.

Class participation: Attitude, dress, work ethic, performance, cooperation, etc., will account for the

majority of your grade. You are expected to dress appropriately for each class period. In addition to

dressing for class you must participate in the directed activity to gain full credit. If you do not dress

appropriately or choose not to dress for class, your class participation grade will fall 5 points each day. One Make up day will be given to you to make up points missed by running 1 mile per point or 5 miles total. These running make up days must be scheduled ahead of time andcompleted before the class period.

Attendance Policy:

  • Students will be allowed to miss 4 days during the course of the semester (excused or unexcused) without any penalty.
  • A letter grade drop will result for each absence past 4. Any student missing more than 7 classes will automatically fail the course.
  • Each student will be allowed to make up one absence, to be assigned by the instructor.

Grading Practices:Grade Scale:

Attendance - 75 pointsA= 90-100

Effort in class – 15 pointsB= 80-90

Mid Term Self Evaluation – 10 pointsC= 70-80

D= 60-70

F= 59 and below

CSI email:Since email is the primary source of written communication with students, all registered CSI students get a college email account. Student e-mail addresses have the following format: <address>@eaglemail.csi.edu where <address> is a name selected by the student as a part of activating his/her account. Students activate their accounts and check their CSI e-mail online at Instructors and various offices send messages to these student accounts. Students must check their CSI e-mail accounts regularly to avoid missing important messages and deadlines. At the beginning of each semester free training sessions are offered to students who need help in using their accounts.

On-line Course Evaluation Statement:Students are strongly encouraged to complete evaluations at the end of the course. Evaluations are very important to assist the teaching staff to continually improve the course. Evaluations are available online at: Evaluations open up two weeks prior to the end of the course. The last day to complete an evaluation is the last day of the course. During the time the evaluations are open, students can complete the course evaluations at their convenience from any computer with Internet access, including in the open lab in the Library and in the SUB. When students log in, they should see the evaluations for the courses in which they are enrolled. Evaluations are anonymous. Filling out the evaluation should only take a few minutes. Your honest feedback is greatly appreciated!
