DESCRIPTION:a healthy lifestyle. This course is conducted on an external website maintained by McGraw-Hill’s Connect.

CREDIT HOURS:One credit hour

AUDIENCE:Freshmen & Sophomores

OBJECTIVES:

  • Learn basic health principles and apply them to personal health;
  • Learn to assess and evaluate personal fitness level;
  • Learn fitness principles and components of a work-out, including warm-up exercises, muscular, cardiovascular, and flexibility activities, and cool-down; and
  • Organize and analyze the course information so that the information can be creatively evaluated and implemented.

COURSE CONTENT:

  • Learn fitness and health principles and apply them to a fitness regimen by engaging in fitness activities.

LEARNING OUTCOMES (from NASPE Standards for Physical Education):

  • Demonstrates competency in motor skills and movement patterns needed to perform a variety of physical activities.
  • Demonstrates understanding of movement concepts principles, strategies, and tactics as they apply to the learning and performance of physical activities.
  • Participates regularly in physical activity.
  • Achieves and maintains a health-enhancing level of fitness.
  • Exhibits responsible personal and social behavior that respects self and others in physical activity settings.
  • Values physical activity for health and enjoyment, challenge, self-expression, and/or social interaction.

CORE OBJECTIVES from THECB:

  1. Critical Thinking (Inquiry, Synthesis, Analysis, & Evaluation) will be directly evaluated through quizzes, labs, and interactive modules.
  2. Personal Responsibility (Self-awareness, Commitment, & Accountability) will be directly assessed through timely completion of all assignments.
  3. Social Responsibility (Intercultural Competencies, Civic Responsibility, & Effective Community Engagement) will be indirectly assessed through responses on labs and quizzes.

POLICIES:

  • It is the responsibility of the student to follow the syllabus and keep up with the assignments in the course.
  • June 6th: last day to drop with 70% refund
  • June8th: last day to drop with 25% refund
  • June 22nd: last day to drop with “W”

ASSIGNMENTS:2 assignments on Blackboard (Autobiography Discussion AND Syllabus quiz worth 100 pts each) plus the following on Connect: 11interactive LearnSmart assignments (chapters 1- 6, 8-10,13 – 14) worth 100 points each,10 labs (chapters 1 – 6, 8-10 & 13) worth 50 points each, and 11quizzes (chapters 1 – 6,8 – 10, & 13 – 14quizzes) worth 200 points each. Total possible points = 4000 points.

A = 3580 – 4000 pts. (89.5 – 100%)

B= 3180 – 3579 pts. (79.5 – 89.4%)

C= 2780–3179 pts. (69.5 – 79.4 %)

D= 2380 – 2779 pts. (59.5 – 69.4)%

F=2379 (below 59.5%)

All chapter assignments will be available on Tuesday, 5/30/17; however, there are weekly deadlines to complete each chapter. You may work ahead of each week’s assignments – in fact, you can complete the entire course the first week; however, I will only check labs and short-answer quiz questions AFTER the weekly, published deadlines. Below is the calendar, with a table with total weekly possible points. You may calculate your current average by dividing your total current points by total possible points.
