PGA OF AMERICA’S EDUCATION DEPARTMENT

LAUNCHES NEW APPRENTICE PROGRAM– PGM 2.0

PALM BEACH GARDENS, Fla. – The PGA of America’s Education Department has formally launched its new apprentice program, “PGM 2.0,” which is part of an ongoing effort to produce membership programs that provide excellence to the changing needs of the golf industry.

The program’s updated curriculum replaces the PGA Professional Golf Management (PGM) program and allows The PGA of America to combine the success of the PGM program, as well as address the issues brought forth by the PGA PGM Task Force.

PGM 2.0 restructures classroom instruction and testing, and requires that new qualifying courses and tests be passed prior to applying for apprenticeship and entering Level One. PGM 2.0 is flexible and adaptable to changes in the golf industry. Its purpose is to provide relevance to all topics that are critical for career enhancement and facility promotion.

“Since The PGA of America was founded, our mission has been to elevate the standards of the golf profession, and that commitment carries through our education program commitments to aspiring professionals,” said PGA of America President Jim Remy. “We anticipate that the study that has gone into developing PGM 2.0 will provide that added incentive to allow apprentice professionals the skills and the preparation needed to meet the demands of today’s marketplace.”

Among the many new features, the learning management system will offer 24/7 access to the course materials. Other features and benefits include:

  • To balance the course workload, the number of self-study courses in Level I has been reduced and additional instructor-delivered courses added. This realignment better matches the on-the-job training that an apprentice experiences throughout their apprenticeship.

  • Enhanced learning opportunities made available by the addition of instructor-led business and teaching-related courses. The Teaching Golf curriculum has been increased from 16 to 48 total hours.
  • The PGAEducationCenter is used as an instructor led learning experience utilizing hands-on activities and interactive software applications designed to promote collaboration and team building among apprentices.
  • The new integrated approach utilizes problem- solving skills that will enhance the retention of subject matter by apprentices.
  • Exams are administered on-demand, through a computer-based testing agency after apprentices return home.
  • The new online education offered through the PGA Learning Management System allows access to the pre-seminar and seminar material 24/7.
