Trip Itinerary:
Mon Jun 10-Tues Jun 11, 2013: Flight from Boston (5:40pm; Emily and Sarah) to Lima via Miami (meet Calla in Miami). We arrive in Lima at 4:30a.m. on the 11th. Meet Ben and Zabet at airport. All take shuttle to HotelSeñorial together.Sleep, shower, eat breakfast.
Explore Lima, lunch in Barranco (ceviche?!).
Visit with Giselle HuamaniOber (Kristen Ober’s mother!) for dinner at 8:30 (467 Daniel-Hernandez Magdalena, 461-6994, 99-953-1122).

Wed Jun 12, 2013: Breakfast at 6:30a.m., check out at 7a.m. Mini-bus to Barranca. Meet driver at hotel. See views of the desert and coast along the way. Drive is ~2-3 hours. Lunch in Barranca, meet David Ames (guide and translator).
Afternoon: Caral archeological site, if time: beach/Pacific Ocean. Dinner and hotel in Barranca.

Thur Jun 13, 2013: Drive to Huaraz in the morning, arrive in the afternoon, ~6-7 hour drive. Check in to Mi Casa Bed and Breakfast. Relax, have dinner in town.

Fri Jun 14, 2013: Spend morning planning, exploring. Day trip in afternoon: hike (acclimatize) in Cordillera Negra. Dinner and hotel in Huaraz.

Sat Jun 15, 2013: Day trip to Yungay and Ulta Valleys. Geohazards: massive landslide/avalanche that buried the town of Yungay and the active Cordillera Blanca Normal Fault (view offset moraines used to calculate fault slip rates). Drive up to pass in afternoon on nice new road! Hotel and dinner in Caraz.

Sun Jun 16, 2013: Drive to Huallanca in morning, view Cañon del Pato, hydroelectric plant, drive to Q. Santa Cruz in afternoon, short hike/hot spring? Observe style of farming in this part of the range. Hotel in Huaraz.

Mon. Jun 17, 2013: Overnight trip to Chavín on the eastern side of the Cordillera Blanca. Drive from Huaraz in the morning, arrive late morning in Chavín. Visit and tour the Chavín de Huántar archeological site in afternoon. Hotel in Chavín.

Tue. Jun 17, 2013: Leave early and drive to Pastoruri Valley to hike to the glacier. Observe landscape in southern Cordillera Blanca. Discuss landscape variation between east and west side of range. Hotel in Huaraz.

Wed. Jun 18, 2013: Rest in Huaraz and explore the community: market, Plaza de Armas, visit with the local water/glacier management group, participate in volunteer event with a local organization (pending dates working out, may have to change this to another day?). Potential mine visit this day…planning with Canadian group.

Thur-Fri Jun 20-21, 2013: Two-day trip to Llanganuco Valley. On the 20th, drive to trail head observing farming styles along the way. Hike in the lower portion of the valley stopping to map and sample a moraine set along the way. Camp at Cebollapampa (completely outfitted camp half-way up valley, talk to guides). Hike to Lago 69 at northwest end of the valley on the 21thto view active glaciers and various glacial geomorphic features. Hike out in the afternoon of the 21th and return to hotel in Huaraz.

Sat Jun 22, 2013: Day in Huaraz, relax, meet with people, plan day trip to nearby site or use this as a day to do something that got cancelled along the way. Possibly meet with science team (Bury, Mark, McKenzie)?

Sun Jun 23, 2013: Emily and Zabet remaining in Huaraz. Early bus (or night bus the night before) to Lima for Ben, Sarah, and Calla. Taxi from bus station to airport by ~7p.m. Leave Lima at 10:40p.m.
