Master Thesis:
/ Title: FUZZY LOGIC MODEL OF A TRACKING SYSTEM FOR SOLAR PANELS IN NORTHERN JORDAN BASED ON EXPERIMENTAL DATA
Solar power is an alternative technology that will hopefully decrease our dependence on petroleum energy sources. Using solar cells to get electrical energy is a complicated method. This is due to many factors that affect the performance of solar systems including the material that is used to manufacture solar cells themselves, the direction of a group of cells (panel), and the angle of sun incidence. The aim of this thesis is to introduce an efficient tracking model for the solar panel set that maximizes the energy output of the solar system. A solar tracking system is a system that is designed and developed to track the sun in order to keep the panel at angles that produce the best power output. The model was developed based on experimental data that are collected from an experimental tracking system located at Jordan University of Science and Technology (JUST) campus in northern Jordan. Data were collected at different weather conditions in the site. A Sugeno Fuzzy inference system was used to model the system. Tracking using no side shadow method was used because it is better and efficient than both of tracking to the sun and fixed due south by 13.8% and 29.1% respectively. The proposed Fuzzy model was experimentally evaluated to demonstrate that this system can successfully predict the correct angles with low error rate of 0.051% for predicted tilt angles and 0.063% for predicted orientation angles. This low predicted error indicates that the system can be used efficiency in Jordan and its neighbors.
