Work Experience

Deckhand/Mate (May 2010 – January 2011)

Yacht Dark Star, Med & Caribbean

Working as a deckhand on a 92ft Maxi sailing yacht for two seasons, I became fully experienced in the daily running and maintenance of the yacht, on and off charter. Duties varied from such activities as teak laying, generator servicing, filling, painting, varnishing, and carpentry work, to the general cleaning and polishing of the deck and tender. Becoming familiar with Awlgrip epoxy primer products, Watertite filler products, Sikaflex and dual component varnish products. Not only focusing on the deck, I would regularly take the guests out to partake in watersports and assist the stewardess in matters of service whilst on charter.

Yachtmaster/Master of Yachts Ocean Traineeship (February 2009 – August 2009)

Assistant Manager (December 2008 – February 2009)

Nikos Restaurant, Bondi Beach, Sydney, Australia

This extremely busy 150 cover Greek restaurant, overlooking Bondi beach, was an amazing place to help manage over the Christmas period. My main duties included stocktaking and ordering, dealing with customers (complaints/serving), interviewing new staff, organising staff meetings and duty rotas.

Business Start-up (July 2008 – November 2008)

Home based/Chester

I formed my own Limited Company, Dulce Vida, with the objective of opening a ‘Choca-luxibar’ located in the heart of Chester in time for the Christmas 2008 trade. Due to the firm hold of the economic recession, were the UK was seeing a high volume of pubs, cafés and other hospitality businesses ceasing to trade daily, I decided that the venture was too high risk and put the Companies trading plans on hold.

Outsourcing Market Analyst (December 2007 – June 2008)

Unisys Europe Limited, London

I worked with the Global Strategic Outsourcing Team to lead the research and design for a ‘green’ sales strategy. Also supporting the team in technical evaluation, competitive analysis and bid administration.

Assistant Manager (September 2005 –November 2007)

Pitcher and Piano, Newcastle-upon-Tyne

Initially joining the company as a Barman, I was then promoted twice in quick succession to Head Barman, and before Christmas 2006 Assistant Manager. Being one of the biggest and busiest bar/restaurants in Newcastle with over 220 covers just in the restaurant, I quickly learnt to perform my duties quickly and efficiently. Dealing with large sums of cash and daily P&L journal entry.

Interests

I try to keep as fit as possible by living a healthy lifestyle, which includes regular exercise including football, running, scuba diving and swimming. I also have a big passion for cooking.
