Job purpose
To teach at postgraduate level, on the MA course Global Media Management.
To engage in research and scholarship that is of an internationally recognized level and related to the research strategy of the School and the University.
To be primarily responsible for the delivery of teaching for the postgraduate pathway MA in Global Media Management. This includes contributing to the pathway modules and potentially to any suitable Option Modules as well with the pathway team taking care of administrative tasks necessary for the pathway.
To assist in planning, teaching, administration and supervising of MA students studying on the Global Media Management pathway, and other pathways where relevant, part of the Graphics, Art and Media department.

1.  / To ensure the learning objectives of the course are met through effective planning, organization and delivery of teaching to students at postgraduate level. This will include participating in delivering the pathway’s curriculum; the curriculum is planned with the MA coordinator and the teaching team. Contribute to the efficient management and administration of the course by performing personal administrative duties as allocated by the pathway leader. / 30
2.  / Directly supervise students (including PhD students) on a one to one basis, providing supervision and guidance with projects. Identify the learning needs of students and define learning objectives. Mark coursework and projects, providing constructive feedback to students. / 20
3.  / To develop and carry out an area of personal research that is relevant to the field of global social media and network cultures. / 30
4.  / Contribute to the development of new course content and teaching delivery, which should be academically informed, reflexive of contemporary scholarly and industry developments. / 15

Member of such Academic Unit committees relevant to their administrative duties.
New appointees will be assigned a senior colleague to guide their development and aid their integration into the Academic Unit and university.
Teaching and administrative duties will be allocated by the Head of Academic Unit and the MA Coordinator, within the context of the teaching programmes agreed by the Academic Unit Learning and Teaching Committee.
Encouraged to collaborate with colleagues in other Faculties and institutions on original teaching, learning and research projects and practice.

PERSON SPECIFICATION

Qualifications, knowledge experience / PhD or equivalent professional qualifications in media, design or a related subject area
Significant Professional and/or academic experience in digital media, social media and/or global media industry developments.
Teaching at undergraduate and/or postgraduate level.
Detailed understanding of the key issues and debates in social media, digital and cultural studies relevant to the field of global media
Knowledge of themes and practices in social media design & industry
Demonstrable in publishing scholarly work with high-level recognized international journals and publishers / Membership of Higher Education Academy / Application and interview
Planning organising / Able to plan, manage, organise and assess pathway and curriculum needs as well as own teaching and research projects.
Able to contribute to writing briefs, course content and new teaching delivery.
Able to contribute to the design of course units, curriculum development and new teaching approaches in the Academic Unit. / Interview and application
Problem solving initiative / Able to react quickly to issues that arise and develop effective responses.
Able to identify areas for improvement within the programme and independently develop appropriate solutions. / Interview and application
