Person Specification – Learning Mentor (18 hours – 2.5 days a week)

ESSENTIAL / DESIRABLE / HOW MEASURED
EXPERIENCE /
  • To have at least one year’s recent experience of face-to-face work with children.
  • To have experience of planning, determining, organising and evaluating support for children
  • Experience of working with children and their parents in and out of school hours
  • Knowledge and experience of a range of behaviour management strategies & techniques

  • Basic counselling skills
  • Experience of working as a learning mentor / behaviour support assistant to support children with challenging behaviour

EDUCATION, TRAINING AND QUALIFICATIONS /
  • To be able to demonstrate a commitment to significant professional development and relevant qualifications commensurate with the post
  • Good Literacy and Numeracy skills
  • Good standard of spoken and written English
  • Good computer skills – word processing, publishing, spread sheets, databases

  • Relevant qualifications from fields relating to education, psychology, guidance, counselling, health, social services, learning mentor certificate
  • 4 GCSEs (Grade A-C) or equivalent including Maths and English

  • Understanding of the developmental needs of children
  • To be able to devise, implement and evaluate individual programmes of support
  • Awareness of health and safety in schools
