The Kansas Bureau of Investigation is accepting applications to fill a Forensic Scientist position in the Latent Print Section in Topeka, KS. This position will be filled based on the candidate’s successful level of experience in one of the following:

Forensic Scientist I: Hourly Compensation Rate: $22.16

Duties of this position include, but are not limited to: training in the area of latent print examination by means of an intensive two-year training program to include analysis of latent print evidence, comparison and evaluation of latent prints and known prints, physical and chemical development, report writing and court testimony.

Minimum Requirements:

·  Bachelor's degree relevant to the field of work. Experience may be substituted for education as determined relevant by the agency.

Preferred Requirements:

·  Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with a degree in Forensic Science, Biology, Chemistry or a related scientific field.

Forensic Scientist II: Hourly Compensation Rate: $26.98

Duties of this position include, but are not limited to: performing analysis of latent print evidence; comparison and evaluation of latent prints to known prints; physical and chemical development; search prints through the Automated Fingerprint Identification Systems (AFIS); document evidence and write reports of results; testifying as an expert witness in a court of law; provides training and presentations to outside agencies and organizations.

Minimum Requirements:

·  Bachelor's degree relevant to the field of work and six (6) months relevant work experience. Experience may be substituted for education as determined relevant by the agency.

Preferred Requirements:

·  Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with a degree in Forensic Science, Biology, Chemistry or a related scientific field.

·  Experience performing independent casework; examining, evaluating and reporting out results in latent print cases.

·  Experience working in an ASCLD-LAB ISO 17025 accredited laboratory.

Forensic Scientist III: Hourly Compensation Rate: $28.31

Duties of this position include, but are not limited to: performing analysis of latent print evidence; comparison and evaluation of latent prints to known prints; physical and chemical development; searches prints through the Automated Fingerprint Identification Systems (AFIS); documents evidence and writes reports of results; conducts technical reviews and verifications; testifying as an expert witness in a court of law; provides training and presentations to outside agencies and organizations. Reviews technical procedures and provides assistance with audits.

Minimum Requirements:

·  Bachelor's degree relevant to the field of work and two (2) years relevant work experience. Experience may be substituted for education as determined relevant by the agency.

Preferred Requirements:

·  Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with a degree in Forensic Science, Biology, Chemistry or a related scientific field.

·  Master’s degree (MS) in Forensic Science.

·  Three (3) years of experience performing independent casework; examining, evaluating and reporting out results in latent print cases.

·  Experience working in an ASCLD-LAB ISO 17025 accredited laboratory.

·  Experience in testifying in a court of law as a Latent Print examiner.

·  Certified latent print examiner with the IAI.

TRAVEL

·  The position is expected to travel to the locations required to competently and diligently discharge the assigned duties. Occasional in-state and limited out-of-state travel may be required. The incumbent in this position is required to have a valid driver's license when operating a state vehicle, a private vehicle, or a rental vehicle for the benefit of the State.
