Percy Poharama Memorial Queens Birthday Weekend:

Sat31May 11am and Sun 1 June 10am

9thApril 2014

Well hello everyone to our first newsletter for 2014.

We have had a memorable season so far. The track has been exceptionally well prepared for racing by Roger, Ray, Roy, Pip, Bruce, Tony B, and their many helpers. We would like to thank ALL Our Race Day Volunteers; infield, lap scorers, commentator, rescue crew, entry steward, BBQ and refreshments after function (prize giving) support team…you all know who these hard workers are, Didi, Rex, Roy, Emma, Angela ...what would we do without you all...again thank you from the Taipa Stock and Saloon Car Executive!!!

The executive has seen some major changes since Tony Cree’s decision to head back down to Christchurch, we wish him well! Thank you to Tony Banks for stepping up into the position of President...we welcome back Julie Graydon, stepping into the role of Treasurer and co-ordinator for the Percy Poharama Memorial Queen’s Birthday Weekend…and handling the Press Releases (Public Relations), and sponsorship for the Percy Poharama Memorial Queens Birthday Weekend is Carole Teixeira…thanks from the team for stepping forward!

Well we are again heading towards the business end of the season for racing in the Far North. Kaikohe’s Easter Stampede is just around the corner starting on Friday 18thApril with CTRA titles: CTRA NZ TQ's, CTRA NZ Quarter Midgets, CTRA North Island LTD Saloons, CTRA North Island C Saloon, CTRA North Island ATV's, CTRA Youth Saloons. Then two more days of hard out racing on the 19th& 20thApril for all speedway grades. Finishing the speedway season with our, ‘if you bring it you can race it’ Percy Poharama Memorial Queens Birthday Weekend 31stMay & 1stJune.

Two CTRA titles were held at Taipa on the 8thFebruary. CTRA Ladies Production Championship winners: 1st -81RV Sheree Todd (Waharoa), 2nd – 8WR Didi Roycroft (Whangarei), 3rd - Nerida Deibert (Waharoa). CTRA NZ Mens Production winners: 1NZ - Marcus Bullen (Waharoa), 2NZ - Darren Emm (Kaikohe), 3NZ - Kayne Sutherland (Waharoa). Congratulations to all winners!!!

Taipa Club Champs were held on Sunday 9th March in brilliant weather and on an extremely fast and superbly grippy track. The V8 powered Saloons were a feature of the day with their three races followed by the annual running of the Glyn Quilter Memorial Trophy race. The fast and furious action took its toll on mechanical bits though, with Ray ‘he who dares’ Dare losing his right hand rear wheel in spectacular fashion on the front straight in race three. The wheel parted company with the axle, taking body panels with it, and then proceeded to bounce around the track in the path of oncoming racers and was narrowly missed by Keith Wilson who took an evasive maneuver before it landed on his bonnet. The Glyn Quilter Memorial trophy race was won in convincing style by Roy ‘Inchman’ Walker starting from the rear of the field and making his way to the front by the end of the first few laps.

Taipa Race Day, Sunday 23rd March 2014 saw Rob Anderson and Ryan Carey bring their stockcars out for a play. The final feature race of the day, the Feature All-In, was a triumph for Pip Jecentho in his 4cyl Nissan B Grader. He was able to stay in front of Ray ‘he who dares’ Dare’s Saloon for 15 laps to earn the chequered flag.

Taipa Race Day 6 April 2014 with Hussey Saloon Challenge Round 2 – Congratulations from us all to the Kaikohe Team for winning this year’s Challenge by 153pts to Taipa’s 128pts.
