Using the Printer

The following is a list of items you need to get started:

1 PennzPrint thermal printer

1 User’s Guide for printer

1 Power cable

1 Printer cable (9 pin male to 9 pin female null modem cable)

1 or more Sticker Rolls (Use Current sticker in stock)

Static Sticker Printer Physical Connections

  1. Plug the 9-pin male end of the printer cable into the back of the printer and secure the connection with the attached screws.
  2. Identify which Com port you will be connecting to on the CPU. Make note of the Com port number as it will be needed to configure the printer port settings.
  3. Plug the 9-pin female end of the printer cable into the Com port you have chosen.
  4. Plug one end of the power cable into an outlet and the other into the printer.
  5. See separate instructions for connecting over longer distances.

Loading the Static Sticker Printer

  1. Make sure the printer has power and the POWER lamp is green.
  2. Open the printer cover.
  3. Remove the printer spindle.
  4. Slide the sticker roll on the spindle (See picture on inside of cover for directions).
  5. Put the spindle and sticker roll back in the printer.
  6. Once the sticker roll is in the printer, slide the roll and the black roll guide as far to the left as they will go.
  7. Open the front printer cover by hitting the two black buttons on the top of the printer cartridge.
  1. Pull the stickers from the roll forward and then close the cover.
  2. Make sure READY lamp is green.

Starting Static Sticker Setup

  1. To launch Static Sticker Setup from POSLaunch, click Setup, then Other Setup, and then Static Sticker Setup.

  1. Enter your user id and password.
  2. The main program screen is shown below in Figure 1.

PrinterPort Setup

  1. Select PENNZPRINT from the Printer Name dropdown.

  1. Click the Configure Port Settings button.

The default settings are as follows:

Port Number – 1

Speed – 9600

Parity – N

Data Bits – 8

Stop Bits – 1

  1. Click the OK button to save the printer port settings or the cancel button to exit the Port Settings window without saving.

Static Sticker Message Maintenance

  1. Be sure that PennzPrint is selected from the Printer Name dropdown.
  2. Select the NextService sticker type in the drop down box
  3. Choose a font size of Medium.

Print a Test Static Stickers

  1. After selecting the sticker type and entering a message, click the Print Test button.
  2. The following screen appears with default test contents for each Data type. You can change any piece of data as you wish.
  1. Change the contents as needed and click OK. A test sticker will be printed.

Using the Printer

To print a sticker, press the F5 key from the Bay application. A sticker will print for the current vehicle, using the defined sticker and layout.

Supplemental Instructions

If the printer does not print after doing the set up, try changing the COM port as explained in PrinterComPort above to 2.

If the printer prints gibberish or more than just the standard items on the static sticker, try resetting the printer using the following technique:

1. Turn the printer off

2. Pop up the printer head by pushing the two buttons/levers at the top of the printer above the area where the sticker is printed.

3. With the head up, turn on the printer

4. Determine that one of the lights on the front of the printer is green and the other is red.

5. Press down the print head until it locks in position.

6. Press the “Feed” button on the front of the printer. This will spin the thermal ribbon.

7. Turn the printer off then on again. There should now be two green lights.

8. Print a test page.
