Penny’s Post-It – Spring 2018
Dear Club Members
Many of you will have heard me say joining the Club was the best thing I did when I moved to Stroud 24 years ago and I am honoured to be Chairman for the coming year. Some of you may never have met me because I cannot do long or fast walks any more and, on age and fitness grounds, I have said that I will only do 1 year in the chair.
I can’t promise to keep to Post-It size but here are a few things:
1.Memorial to George Lodge. The Committee agreed that we should give a kissing gate in George’s memory and we are looking for a site around Paganhill, Cainscross or Randwick.
2.Road (and railway) Safety. Please do not start to cross until you can see that there is space for youto wait off the road on the other side.
3. The Programme. By the time you read this the days will be longer and we can look forward to Spring and the programme of walks over the Easter weekend.
A big “Thank you” to Marion who puts the programme together and to all the Leaders who make it happen.
Marion tries to get the programmes out in good time. Delays can be caused by gaps in the programme and then Marion has to ring round and twist arms to fill them before she can print the programme, so please consider offering to lead a walk, even if you haven’t led before. Start with a half-day based around a favourite walk.
The next programme will cover May – July, long days and (hopefully) good weather, the ideal time to lead your first walk. If you have an idea, but aren’t sure, ask any committee member or walk leader and we will help you work it out.
4. Holidays. Tessa thanks all those who participated in the soundings about holidays in Cornwall and Leicestershire. The Leicestershire [Market Bosworth] holiday will go ahead but the responses for the Cornish [Godolphin] holiday did not represent any couples and, as the accommodation is almost exclusively double beds, it seemed wiser not to proceed. The booking form for Market Bosworth is in with this mailing.
Happy walking
Penny
