Mrs Benson held a “guess how many books are in the library” contest and gave clues to a mystery book contest. In Art students wrote letters for Senior and Veterans homes for Valentine’s Day. In music students did reading related jingles and in P.E. did Jumps and jingles. BAS is being completed for mid- year. I Ready Math and Reading will be completed on Friday. FSA dates are on the calendar. ACCESS is beginning for ESOL students to assess what level they are on.
Math: Checkpoint 2 for I ready Math is ready. Discussed the BCTM math club. The first group of 10 fourth and fifth graders are practicing. There will be a competition between these students to get the four highest scoring students. Then there will be a competition on Saturday April 7th for them with others in the district.
Science: Ms. Monnin reported that Science night is completed. The survey results were very good. 142 responders gave it a 5, 31 a 4 and 7 a 3. The District is adopting a science book. It is being brought before the board in February. Hoping the new science materials will be at school by May to be looked at for next school year. Ms. Cobb commented that parents were happy not to have to do the science projects at home this year. Mrs. Suarez commented that she liked being able to see the progress on Dojo.
Writing: Mrs. Benedit reported everyone is continuing to write across all grade levels meeting benchmarks connecting to the curriculum. On March 6th is FSA writing. All classes not taking the FSA writing will have a mock writing assessment that day.
Guidance: Mrs. Axel reported the Pac a Sac gave food, gifts and trees to students in December. She continues to see individual students and groups and in class guidance lessons. 5th graders will be going over to Walter C Young to visit and help with the transition for next year.
New Business:
Mrs. Cruz reported that A plus funds were distributed on the last pay check.
Mrs. Cruz reviewed the SIP plan.
Smart Goal: Mrs. Cooper presented the sample Ballot. The different options were reviewed. The ballot will be going out to all staff members. Volunteers and parents. Instructions were reviewed for completing the ballot and how many ballots each family will receive. One difference for option 1 and 2 is the amount of classrooms who will receive the high impact furniture.
Mr. Jones suggested more detailed information for parents be put on the ballot. Suggestions made to alter the ballot included:
Change cafeteria upgrade to Stage area projector and sound system
Add Digital to the word Marquee
For furniture suggested 21st century classroom furniture. Mrs. Porven suggested stating the furniture would be ergonomic.
For the two different furniture options put “some” and “more”
SAC voted on the new wording for the ballots. All approved. They should go home in next Thursday folder.
Principals Report
We are in testing season. 4th and 5th grade have taken BSA ELA and Math. 3rd is taking BSA ELA and 5th grade is taking Science. The data currently is much lower than was expected. Testing was impacted by issues with the Districts computer system. The results are not aligning in reading in 4th and 5th grade with how students are performing.
Parents of 4th and 5th graders will be receiving a letter asking parents to bring in something to motivate your child for FSA. Ie. A letter/poster etc..
