Notes And News
Take Home Books: Take Home Books: Please spend time each night reading with your child. Remember to record the books or minutes on the Reading Log.
They should be bringing a new one home every evening. This book “supplements” the other books you are reading. With practice, first graders will learn very quickly. Therefore, if you notice that your child needs a higher level and I have not caught it yet, please send me an email.
Ms. Smith, our wonderful student teacher:
October 14 is Ms. Smith’s last day before she heads off to the Netherlands. She will be student teaching there until the end of the year. The good news is she will return to us in January and finish up her service January 15. What a treasure she is!
Math-We have begun Unit 2. We are working with equations and learning about the concept of equality and the relationship between part and whole from the concrete world into symbolic equations.
At Home Reading Log: October Reading Log is due November 2nd. The expectation for October is 200 minutes or 20 books. Many students will read beyond this goal! There will be a celebration for all students who complete and return their log on November 2nd.
Sight Words: The following words are sight words we are reviewing from kindergarten. First graders should be able to read, write, and spell these words on their own. Please quiz your child.
This week we are focusing on these words:
