Ⅰ.Training Goal :

To make fellows capable of managing critically ill children, and being eligible and certified by the Society of Pediatric Emergency and Critical Care Medicine 台灣小兒科醫學會兒童重症醫學次專科委員會.

Ⅱ.Training Period :

Tow years or three years(as an option)

Ⅲ.Training Items :

  1. Principles of PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support).
  2. Pediatric FCCS
  3. Management of airway, endotracheal intubation.
  4. Management of intoxication .
  5. Management of CNS insult.
  6. Upper airway emergency management.
  7. Management of pulmonary critical illness.
  8. Management of cardiovascular critical illness.
  9. Management of neurological critical illness
  10. Cardiac-Pulmonary interactions.
  11. Abdominal Emergency.
  12. X-ray reading .
  13. Parenteral nutrition .
  14. Clinical pharmacology .
  15. Procedures :
  1. Arterial line .
  2. Central venous line-internal jugular, subclavian, femoral, and peripheral.
  3. Chest tube.
  4. Pericardiocentesis.
  5. Peritoniocentesis.
  6. Jugular bulb catheter
  1. Laboratory Diagnosis

ABG/VBG, EKG, CAT scan, MRI, Echocardiography, CBC, Biochemistry…etc

  1. Mechanical Ventilation :
  1. Understanding ventilatory modes
  2. Conventional.
  3. HFOV.
  4. NO.
  1. Endocrine Critical illness.
  2. Kidney replacement therapy(indications and general care)
  1. CAVH and CAVHD

Ⅴ.Training Calender

  1. First-year fellow :
  1. Daytime PICU work : 8 months.
  2. Elective course : 3 months

Neonatology, Cardiology(Echocardiography, EKG, post OP care),

Anesthesiology(procedures), GI(Echo), RT(work with RT staffs), Reading/research, abdominal echo.

  1. Nigh-time on call:8/month(including two weekends), the second day will be OFF after morning round.
  2. Transport on call: will be defined later
  3. Academic activity: supervise residents reading two original article, one chapter of textbook aboutcritical care medicine per month.
  4. One topic review lecture in first year
  1. Second-year fellow :
  1. Day-time PICU work: 8 months.
  2. Night-time on call : 6/month.
  3. Off-days on call : 2 weekends
  4. Transport on call: will be defined later
  5. One topic review.
  6. Research: 2 month. One original article.
  7. Elective course(any field) or writing : two months

*Day-time work includes :

  1. Rounds with attending in the morning and evening
  2. Supervise residents in daily works.
  3. Cover and supervise residents on invasive procedures.
  4. Supervise RT with mechanical ventilation adjustment.
  5. Nutrition.
  6. Supervise pharmacist on pharmacokinetics
  7. Discover obscure problems and report to the attending in charge.
  8. Arrange academic activities
  9. Communication with other departments/hospitals

*Night-time work includes :

  1. Rounds with residents at 10pm(may use telephone if there is no critically ill

Patient) and report to the on-call attending.

  1. Transport team.

VI. Three year options:

  1. One and a half year on another subspecialties: cardiology, neonatology, pulmonology. The course can be adjusted to match needs of certain academic societies.
  2. The third year fellow will still have night time oncalls: 3/months.
