Lesson 1
Can show increasing control over an object / Gather the children to sit in a large circle. Explain that they will be practicing their ball skills. Explain that they must pass the large, soft ball around the circle, when they have the ball they must shout out their name. / Now explain that we are going to play different games using the ball. Stand up in the circle and demonstrate passing the large ball under your chin. Explain that we are not allowed to use our hands. Can they pass the ball around the circle following the instructions? Now suggest passing the ball using their knees / Repeat the starter activity but stand up. This will develop their co-ordination skills. / Can they listen and respond to simple instructions.

Lesson 2
Can show increasing control over an object / Gather the children to sit in a large circle and explain that we are going to play hot potato. We are going to pretend that the ball is a hot potato and we need to pass the ball around the circle as quickly as possible. / Now explain that they are going to roll the ball to each other in the circle. Demonstrate rolling the ball to somebody in the circle, when the ball is being rolled they must shout out that person’s name. Encourage the children to stand up in the circle to develop their rolling skills. / Repeat the starter activity. Choose somebody sitting nicely to start off hot potato. / Can they listen and respond to simple instructions.

Lesson 3
Can catch a large ball / Gather the children to sit in a large circle and explain that we are going to play hot potato. We are going to pretend that the ball is a hot potato and we need to pass the ball around the circle as quickly as possible. / Take a step back in the circle to make it bigger. Now explain that they are going to gently throw the large ball to the person next to them whilst calling out their name. Can they throw the ball around the circle without dropping it?
Demonstrate throwing and catching the ball gently. / Adult to stand inside the circle, they must gently throw the ball to somebody standing the circle and shout out their name. / Can they attempt to throw and catch a large ball?

Lesson 4
Can catch a large ball / Recap how to throw and catch a ball. Talk about good looking and being ready to catch the ball with their hands. Now stand the children in a large circle. Adult to stand inside the circle, they must gently throw the ball to somebody standing the circle and shout out their name. / Put the children in to pairs and get them to face each other. Can they roll the ball to each other? Are they able to control the ball? Extend by getting them to move further away from each other. / Gather the children to stand in a circle and roll the ball to each other in the circle. Demonstrate rolling the ball to somebody in the circle, when the ball is being rolled they must shout out that person’s name. / Can they attempt to throw and catch a large ball?

Lesson 5
Can catch a large ball / Recap how to throw and catch a ball. Talk about good looking and being ready to catch the ball with their hands. Now stand the children in a large circle. Adult to stand inside the circle, they must gently throw the ball to somebody standing the circle and shout out their name. / Put the children in to pairs and get them to face each other. Now explain that they are going to throw the ball to each other. Demonstrate how to gently throw and catch a ball before starting activity. / Show and tell some good examples of throwing and catching. / Can they attempt to throw and catch a large ball?

Lesson 6
Can catch a large ball / Recap how to throw and catch a ball. Talk about good looking and being ready to catch the ball with their hands. Now stand the children in a large circle. Adult to stand inside the circle, they must gently throw the ball to somebody standing the circle and shout out their name. / Repeat activity from last lesson. Extend activity by moving further apart. Are they able to throw and catch the ball at different distances? / Show and tell some good examples of throwing and catching. / Can they attempt to throw and catch a large ball?
