PCCD DE Committee Meeting Notes for February 13, 2017

DE Comrades,

I entirely forgot (I’m sorry) to get someone to take notes on today’s meeting so below is a brief recap.

•  Reviewed and discussed Fall 2016 accomplishments, but also reviewed the DE resolution from February 2016 (attached) and noted that the committee needs to return attention to advocating and making recommendations related to big-picture DE improvements for PCCD students.

•  Spent and hour in overview training (via webinar) for the Canvas roll-out (Katie Jacobs,“Customer SuccessManager” at Canvas). Screen shot of training specifics attached (thanks to Jeff Lamb). Committee decided to dedicate the next meeting to one agenda item – planning the Canvas rollout. This meeting will be on Monday, February 27, from 12:00-2:00 and Phillip King will chair that meeting.

◦  Katie Jacobs will send out a Google Doc for build a contact list; each college will have 2 primary leads (an administrator and the DE Coordinator).

◦  Prior to that meeting, Mike Orkin with clarify, with the chancellor, if the money set aside ($36,000 for stipends) for the Train-the-Trainer program this spring can be divided and transferred to the colleges (instead of managed at the district). Allocation could be based on number of faculty at each college (i.e. Proportional distribution).

◦  Mike Orkin will bring details and costs for the additional training subscription to Canvas (for entire college communities)

◦  Each college should develop a plan for their Canvas roll-out and their Train-the-Trainer schedule and come to the Feb. 27 meeting with any questions and clarifications needed.

◦  Prior to meeting, review and familiarize with Canvas Community at:https://community.canvaslms.com/

◦  Each college will plan on only 19 participants (instead of 20) so that district staff can train also

•  Discussed the CCCSCO Student Satisfaction survey; Mike Orkin will work with Srujana Tumu to ensure that the student data is available to the CCCSCO by February 24.

•  Discussed the implementation of QUEST into Moodle for immediate use (in preparation for broader use once we switch to Canvas); Mike Orkin will work with Srujana Tumu to implement QUEST as soon as possible (not urgent but soon).

•  We brainstormed recommendations for the development of a contract with an Instructional Design expert to help Peralta improve DE this semester. Recommendations attached.

•  On Monday, March 13, 12:00-2:00, the committee will have it’s next regular meeting and the agenda will include prioritizing projects for the semester. Phillip King and Vinh Phan/Ann Buchalter will organize and chair the remainder of the meetings for the semester.

•  Ed Loreto will act as Liaison to the District Technology Committee for the remainder of the semester

•  Cleavon plans to attend all DE Committee meetings this semester but, if he can’t,Vinh Phan/Ann Buchalter will provide updates for DAS.
