Reimbursement:A sum of $250.00 is available quarterly on application

About Pony Club

Pony Club is an International voluntary youth organisation, represented in more than 20 countries, with an overall membership exceeding 100,000. Originating in Britain as a scheme to encourage young people to learn to ride, it focused on riding instruction and fun. It has now become the largest association of riders in the world.

PCAV is the State Sporting Association representing over 200 Pony Clubs throughout Victoria and across the New South Wales border. Clubs are the foundation of the movement, where riders are encouraged to participate in and enjoy a variety of activities connected with horses and riding within a social club environment. These activities include the conventional disciplines of competition as well as recreational riding activities.

The focus within PCAV is not limited to coaching riding skills. Promoting the highest ideals of sportsmanship, citizenship and loyalty as well as instilling in members the proper care of their animals are major aims of the organisation.

A committee of management manages the affairs of the Association in accordance with the Victorian Associations Incorporations Act this committee of management is known as the state council.

Position Summary

The President sets the overall annual committee agenda (consistent with the views of members, clubs are the members), helps the committee prioritise its goals and then keeps the committee on track by working within that overall framework. At the operational level, the major function of the President is to facilitate effective committee meetings.

Organisational Relationships

Reports to:State Council. The President is elected by the members (clubs are the members) and is responsible for representing the views of the members.

Qualifications & Skills

Desirable

  • Drivers Licence
  • Effective communication skills – verbal and written
  • Is well informed of all organisation activities
  • Is aware of the future directions and plans of members
  • Has a good working knowledge of the constitution, rules and the duties of all office holders and subcommittees
  • Is a supportive leader for all organisations members.

Required

  • Current Working with Children Card
  • Personal computer, including access to an internet connection and email account

Duties

General

  • The President sets the overall annual committee agenda (consistent with the views of members),

Specific Duties

  • manage committee and/or executive meetings
  • manage the annual general meeting
  • represent PCAV at local, regional, state and national level

Insurance Cover

  • Insurance cover is provided under the Australian Pony Club Inc Insurance Policy and detailed in the Australian Pony Club Insurance Policy handbook, available on the PCAV website

Time Commitment

  • Attend 5 State Council meetings, Executive meetings as required - on average 6 per year, 4 State Championship Events and the AGM. A minimum of 16 days per year.
  • Checking emails on a regular basis to attend to correspondence as required.
  • State Council Meeting minute review - 5 meetings per year
  • Written reports for AGM and PCAV Magazine – 5 per year

Expenses/Entitlements

$250/quarter is available to assist with covering costs associated with carrying out the duties of President

Reimbursements:

  • when undertaking activities sanctioned by State Council in the role of President out of pocket expenses will be reimbursed on production of receipt

  • the PCAV State President must comply with the PCAV Codes of Conduct which can be found on the web site to Resources/Codes of Conduct
