Director of Teaching School

Purpose of Job

The Pavilion & Downs Teaching School Alliance (‘PAD’)has approval from the Department for Education and National College for Teaching and Leadership to establish a teaching school alliance.

The Director of Teaching School will work closely with the Strategic Board to develop the vision, scope and remit of the Teaching School. They will lead the strategic and operational development of the Teaching School, collaborating with schools across Brighton Hove and West Sussex.

L12-16 (based on prior experience)

DATE OF PREPARATION

March 2017

Key Duties

  • To be responsible for the day-to-day management of PAD
  • To be responsible for developing and monitoring the PAD Business Plan and sound financial operations
  • To take a lead role in the development of PAD Initial Teacher Training, school to school support and continuing professional development
  • Monitor the effectiveness of the delivery of PAD
  • Broker and commission services and resources for a range of schools
  • To be an ambassador for the PAD working with external partners to promote the work of the Teaching School Alliance.

Communications

  • Prepare briefing papers, agendas and reports
  • Further strengthen the partnerships between schools in the Alliance and other teaching schools
  • Develop and implement a marketing and communication strategy which clearly articulates the vision of the teaching school.

Efficient and effective deployment of resources

  • Prepare bids and manage the bidding process for specific grants or work
  • Plan, allocate, support and evaluate work undertaken by, and on behalf of,PAD including deployments by national leaders, local leaders and specialist leaders in education
  • To lead and manage the work of PAD staff
  • To ensure that PAD staff are appropriately trained, monitored, supported and assessed
  • Respond to changing needs, ensuring capacity to deliver high quality provision including school to school support
  • Produce the annual action plan with appropriate KPIs
  • Evaluate PAD performance in a form appropriate to a range of audiences, including the NCTL, DfE and Ofsted.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Professional qualification up to degree level or equivalent
  • Proven experience of income generation would be an advantage
  • Successful experience as a leader or manager in education with recent involvement with the delivery of programmes and support in a range of schools would be an advantage
  • Proven experience of project management and associated organisation and prioritisation skills
  • The ability to implement change management effectively and efficiently
  • Successful involvement in performance processes and data analysis to impact on development and change
  • Effective and efficient financial management.

Knowledge and Understanding

  • Excellent research and development skills
  • Knowledge of current educational developments and trends, including the Ofsted framework and ITT Criteria
  • Deep knowledge of local, regional and national developments in teaching school and self-improving systems.

Skills and Abilities

  • Excellent organisational, planning and presentation skills
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills both oral and problem solving
  • Excellent networking skills and integrity to form partnerships with a range of stakeholders
