Dear Forest Hill Families,
With the recent police alert, it is a good time to review personal safety with our students. We hope that you will review with your children the safety tips on yesterday’s alert. (tips are attached below) In our efforts to reinforce our safety procedures we are faced with some challenges with our senior students that parents need to be aware of. In September senior school parents were given the option of allowing their child to leave school property at lunch as they wish or only leaving with a signed note from a parent. We would ask that if you would only like your child leaving with your written consent that you make sure the office has that information. We highly encourage parents to share their wishes with their children. Remember….children who leave school at lunch are unsupervised.
Our crossing guards and staff are on heightened alert and where possible there is increased supervision in the yard. As parents, you can help us out by checking in at the office and getting a visitor’s badge, helping us keep an eye out for unwanted visitors during drop-off and pick-up and by reinforcing personal safety tips with your children. Together we will keep our school safe.
Safety tips worth sharing…
Please let us know if you have any questions or concerns.

12th ANNUAL “TRICK OR TREAT FOR KIDS WHO CAN’T” CAMPAIGN”
It is hard to believe another year has gone by since our last “Trick or Treat for Kids Who Can’t” Campaign”! Our school and community did a great job bringing the joy of Halloween to many children who otherwise would not have had the opportunity to enjoy this fun filled tradition. We plan to carry of with this event again for our 12th year.
Forest Hill will distribute the “Trick or Treat for Kids who can’t” bags to children in the Primary and Junior School classes who wish to participate in the Campaign. We will also have additional bags in the school office for those children in the Senior School who would like to participate.
The recipients of our candy drive have grown considerably during the past five years and include: Bloorview-MacMillan Children’s Centre, Big Brothers and Big Sisters of Metro Toronto, The Children’s Aid Society, Various Women’s Shelters that house children, Covenant House, Churches on the Hill Food Bank, Scarborough Grace Hospital, Trillium, Humber River Hospital, Rouge Valley Hospital and York Central Hospital and Variety Village. Our list will continue to grow depending on our level of success!
Sorting and delivering the candy does take a considerable amount of time. Please bring the bag (full or empty) to your child’s classroom on Friday morning, so that we can sort and deliver the candy to the children in an expedient manner.
We think this is a wonderful way for the students of Forest Hill to show our compassion for those children who unable to go out for Halloween.
PLEASE PARTICIPATE!!
We badly need volunteers to help sort &/or deliver candy!
Please contact Mindy Shinoff at (416) 676-7093 or email her at if you can help. All assistance is appreciated. The delivering of the candy and treats is a very moving experience.

Caribou Mathematics Competition
Once again, students in Mrs.Nalian’sMathematics class participated in the Caribou Mathematics Competition this year. This contestis a world-wide online contest that started in 2002 and is held six times throughout the school year. One of thegoals of the contest is to show that mathematical puzzles can be fun and that competing in math contests can be exciting and modern. Close to 4500 students around the world participated in this contest on October 16th this year.
We would like to recognize a number of students who showed exemplary results. Howard Halim, EricKreem and CliftonSahotacame1st, 2nd and 3rd place respectively in the school.
