Paul Mazza’s CSA Newsletter
July 19 – July 25
This week we have lots of vegetables available to offer, so more than half the share is going to be options. Besides blueberries, herbs, and beans (which I figured most everyone would want), you get to choose between 8 or so different items. There might be surprise items, too! Please feel free to take extra of one item, if you really like it. For instance, you could take 12 ears of corn and 2 bags of peas, if you wanted, and that would count as 5 “options”.
I also wanted to let everyone know that we do recycle clean pints and quarts, so feel free to bring them back when you pick up your share, if you wish. We also love to re-use boxes, so if you got your share in a box one week because you forgot your bag, we’d love it if you brought back the box the next week! Thanks!

Red Hen Bread
This week's bread is Red Hen’s Crossett Hill Batard. This is a GREAT sandwich bread. I like to use it and sharp Cabot cheddar to make a really tasty grilled cheese.
Here’s what Red Hen says about it on their website:
The Crossett Hill Batard is now made entirely with local wheat and rye! This is an alternative size and shape (smaller and oval) for our Crossett Hill Round. It is meant to be a more sandwich-friendly version of our whole grain favorite.
Next Week’s bread is Red Hen’s Waitsfield Common.
Next Week’s Produce
Blueberry season’s in full swing, so next week’s share will probably have blueberries again, along with corn, beans, lettuce, and many of the other mid-summer veggies we have this week. I think we’ll probably be giving out dill as the herb, so next week might be a good time for some cucumber salad! We’ll have kale again, too, but it will just be an option – only for those of you out there who are fans!
Pennsylvania Peaches
From mid-July through the end of August we carry Pennsylvania peaches. These are some of the juiciest, sweetest, most flavorful peaches you’ll ever eat (with the exception of ours, of course!). We’ll try to give out coupons most of the weeks we carry them.
PYO Blueberries and Raspberries
Because of all the rain we’ve had this year, the blueberries in Essex and Colchester are doing fantastic, and the picking is great. If you haven’t had a chance to pick blueberries yet, now it the time! I wish I could say the same about raspberries, but unfortunately this year the raspberry picking hasn’t been as good, especially in Essex. If you have your heart set on raspberries, talk to me this week when you pick up your share and I’ll let you take sub a PYO raspberry voucher for 2 of the veggie options. Just know that the picking in Colchester is going to be better, and that the summer raspberry season is starting to slow down.
