Power steering pump lines and adapter—early model Deville and Fleetwood

To install:

  1. Inspect all adapter O-rings for proper positioning or damage. Replace any cut or damaged O-rings.
  2. Insert the return line adapter clip on the adapter at the return line port. Make sure that the beveled edges of the clip are facing outward.
  3. Position the adapter on the pump, inserting the pump inlet tube until fully seated.
  4. Position the pump in the vehicle while inserting the return line into the adapter port. Make sure that the line is fully seated and is retained by the adapter clip.
  5. Install the pump mounting bolts but do not tighten at this time.
  6. Install the pressure line fitting to the pump.
  7. Tighten the pump mounting bolts to 18 ft. lbs. (25 Nm) and the pressure line fitting to 20 ft. lbs. (27 Nm).
  8. Press the pulley onto the pump shaft using tool J-25033-B or equivalent. The face of the pulley hub must be flush with the pump shaft.
  9. Position the belt tensioner mounting bolt in the vehicle.
  10. Install the reservoir by carefully inserting the reservoir tubes into the adapter ports. Use a rocking motion to fully seat the tubes in the adapter. Install the reservoir mounting bolts.
  11. Install the belt tensioner and tighten the mounting nut to 55 ft. lbs. (75 Nm).
