Pastoral Council Minutes

The minutes from the meeting were approved as written.

Committee Business

Will Targy conducted a brief presentation on the Three Goals of The Seeker Movement. Some of the items of interest that he emphasized on this important youth program are:

·  Inviting teens into a deeper encounter and relationship with God.

o  Inviting teens into a mentor-like relationship with our adult leaders in Catholic faith formation.

·  Building authentic community and bridge between teens, their families, and the parish.

o  Get to know parish ministries

o  Get to know other parish members and families on a personal level.

·  Reaching out to build relationships with parents; help equip them with tools and approaches for building faith in the home

o  Work with parents/families of teens personally

o  Share in teens faith formation.

Chris reported the following items of interest:

·  Thank you letter from the Hospitality Committee for the Pastoral Council’s help with Hospitality Sunday.

·  Mike will be getting information about the parish picnic. The start date for the Parish Picnic committee meeting will be March 15, 2015. He would like to get one person from each organization to be on this committee. Mike will contact Therese Hupf and Cindy Menzel about the upcoming plan/committee meeting.

·  Donations for Father Denny’s wallet for Silent Auction.

·  There will be a Parish Mission from March 25th thru March 28, 2015. There are several ways to volunteer, from donating finger foods, beverages or paper items, to helping serve those in attendance. The Pastoral Council and Board of Education will be hosting this parish mission event at St. Mary’s Church on March 25, 2015; see the sign-up sheet for items needed. .

·  There is an opening for nominations for one position on the Pastoral Council. Chris Sjoberg will be rotating off of the Parish Council at the end of this term. There will be a notice in the bulletin for this position in the coming weeks.

Pastor’s Report – Father Denny

Father Denny reported the following items of interest:

·  The business manager position is presently recruiting candidates. Ray’s retirement date will be April 1st, 2015.

·  The new candidate will start April 1st, 2015.

·  The Building and Grounds Committee will meet tomorrow night. They will be discussing the entryway project. The present cost for the entryway is between $400-$450 thousand dollars.

·  A meeting is being scheduled with the Archbishop and donors about the entryway project.

Development Committee – George Lamperti

Youth Ministry & Activities – Randy Leister

Randy reported That Man Is You (TMIY) second session started and there are approximately 60 to 70 men registered for this session.

Maintenance – Mike Sedlacek

Liturgy & Spirituality – Deacon Lee Mayhan

Lee reported 1st confessions at St. Matthew’s went very well.

Finance – John Saniuk

John reported the following items of interest:

·  Contributions during the Christmas season went very well this year.

·  There were two donations given to the church (Jaguar and coins). The proceeds from these donations came to approximately $12,000.00.

·  There was a $12,000.00 deficit but with the proceeds from the donations the finances are presently on budget.

Human Needs/ Social Justice – Kathie Bickerstaff and Chris Sjoberg

·  Health ministry didn’t meet last month.

·  There will be an upcoming blood drive in the spring of 2015.

·  Blood pressure checks are still being administered during hospitality Sundays.

Parish Activities & Community Building – Suzanne Hasiak

All Christmas parties went well. Committees didn’t meet last month and some had not met this month either.

Knights of Columbus – Dan Whitehead

Dan reported the following items of interest:

·  The Priest Appreciation dinner was well attended with 111 attendees along with some St. Matthew’s parishioners. The Columban Fathers really enjoyed the dinner and social event.

·  Fish fries start on February 20th, 2015.

New Business

None

Strategic Goals Discussion

·  The Evangelization/Welcoming document was reviewed, discussed and corrections made.

·  Look at other parishes in the archdiocese on line to see what evangelization techniques they use.

·  Also look at other parish’s newsletters/bulletins on line to see what welcoming activities they perform.

·  Dan will conduct a research on finding information from other parish’s evangelization/welcoming techniques.

·  Use of nametags for greeters/ushers.

·  Need to get families involved in the parish to assist in various programs.

·  Welcoming packet needs to be updated. The Welcoming Committee will work on this.
