Goal: To test classroom knowledge and develop academic, personal/social, and workplace readiness skills in their chosen career path as applied in the workplace.
Expectations
Student will:
· Complete application in blue or black ink
· Have passed all subjects
· Obtain parental/guardian consent
· Interview with employer
· Dress appropriately for the work environment
· Participate in the Massachusetts Work-Based Learning Plan (MWBLP) evaluation process
· Meet the reflection writing requirements
· Meet with teacher on a regular basis to review:
Attendance
Reflections
Transportation issues
Any other issues affecting the internship
· Be responsible for providing own transportation to and from the worksite (students are provided bus tokens by Central Office)
Worksite Mentor will:
· Provide written job description including expectations and duties
· Interview all prospective candidates
· Provide meaningful and challenging work in a structured environment
· Use the MWBLP to evaluate the student
· Assist with project that incorporates competencies listed in the MWBLP
· Supervise & monitor day-to-day responsibilities of the student, providing constructive feedback, interpersonal, and business etiquette support
· Discuss level of needed education, skills, academic strengths and financial earning potential
Workforce Development staff will:
· Provide supervision and support
· Complete MWBLP’s with employers in coordination with school-based Career Coordinators
· Act as liaison between student, teachers, and worksite mentor
Attendance:
Students Must:
· Meet the District attendance and punctuality requirements, (no more than 4 unexcused absences and or 4 times tardy per marking period)
· Work at the job site a minimum of 40 hours per semester. Times and dates of the worksite participation can vary depending on the individual situation
· Work at least two hours each internship session
· Attend all internship meetings unless student received approval from Internship Coordinator not to attend
· Report (call in) absences to the worksite mentor and the Internship Coordinator on the morning of the anticipated absence
· Report emergency absences to the worksite mentor and the Workforce Development office on the same day as the absence
Credits and Evaluation:
· Students will receive ½ credit upon successful completion of the internship
· Internships are unpaid for the duration of this contract.
· Evaluation will be based upon attendance at the worksite, internship meetings, teacher evaluation of student reflection writing, and the MWBLP
· Students will receive a written evaluation of their performance from their worksite mentor (MWBLP)
Parents/ Guardians will:
· Communicate regularly with their child about his/her commitment to the internship program
· Be an advocate for their child, notifying the Internship Coordinator or school-based Career Coordinator of any issues that may arise at school or the worksite.
· Support their student as he/she stays abreast of all class work while carrying out effectively all duties and responsibilities of the internship
