Project idea: / Temporary project name: POWER TO RESIST
Tranemo Municipality is looking for European partners interested to participate in a project proposal within the frame of the Grundtvig – Partnership programme. The project will aim to improve awareness and attitudes (among parents regarding the health risks) towards alcohol consumption among young people in Europe.
Background to projectidea: Historically the alcohol consumption is very high among young people in Europe. Even though the consumption has decreased during the last few years, statistics still show that young people consume a lot of alcohol. In Sweden and Tranemo Municipality this depends to a great degree on parents' liberal views on alcohol leading them to procuring the alcohol for their children. The liberal view among parents towards alcohol tends to lead to an earlier alcohol debut for their children, which is dangerous to their health and for their development.
Despite repeated efforts by the municipality to inform parents and youths that alcohol consumption is proven to be hazardous to their health, parents continue to allow their children to drink. Parents’ awareness of the risks related to providing children with alcohol has started to improve lately. That is why the municipality is keen towith local and international partners to keep this trend in motion.
Future project and cooperation idea:
Tranemo wishes to exchange and develop ideas on how to further improve awareness and attitudes(among parents regarding the health risks) towards alcohol consumption among young people in Europe.
The project will involve different local organizations that come in contact with parents and young people like associations, churches, health centers, as well as suppliers of alcohol, public authorities and schools.
During a preparatory visit in November,a number of themes will be decidedupon. Within these themes the project partners will work together to establish guidelines to be used to reach parents. The project partners will have different roles in the project, targeting different target groups. For example, health centers could meet to exchange ideas and experiences on how they are working to change attitudes towards alcohol consumption and how to develop and improve in the future.
A more developed and determined project description will be developed during the preparatory meeting and sent out to partners interested in joining the project partnership.
We are looking for public, private or non-profit organizations/authorities whoare working to reduceyouthdrinking andwho are able toreach out todifferent target groupssuch as associations, municipalities, schools, healthcare and other stakeholders.
Tranemo will act as lead partner and will be responsible for writing the proposal and for gathering of information to finalize the partnership application.
Project budget: All partners will apply for mobilities. This will entail a minimum of 8, 12 or 24 mobility’s for visiting the other partners and attending four different workshops during the project period.
