Pasadena Heritage will host a community meeting on Wednesday, March 14, to discuss Mansionization and to introduce the upcoming Specific Plan process that will be launched by the City of Pasadena.
PARTICIPATE PASADENA is a community engagement initiative of the local historic preservation non-profit Pasadena Heritage. Extending from the organization’s work to identify and preserve historic neighborhoods and buildings, this initiative aims to connect with residents and capture their concerns about and ideas for Pasadena’s built environment and community character in general.
The next PARTICIPATE PASADENA meeting is open to all and will be held on Wednesday, March 14, from 6:30 - 8:30 p.m. at the Lake Avenue Church (393 North Lake Avenue, Pasadena 91101). Free parking is available immediately west of the church, off Maple Avenue. The meeting is free but registration is required because of limited space. Register at Donations will be gratefully received to support this effort.
The meeting will focus on Mansionization in non-hillside Pasadena neighborhoods that do not have Landmark District designation. Large new single-family homes and major remodels have been on the upswing and can change the character and scale of residential streets and neighborhoods. The City of Pasadena is in the process of drafting new regulations on single-family construction, and information gathered at this meeting will provide constructive input. The evening’s agenda also includes an introduction to the City’s upcoming Specific Plan process where eight areas of the city are targeted to receive special consideration under the recently updated General Plan.
Pasadena Heritage was very pleased to welcome more than 130 participants to its kick-off PARTICIPATE PASADENAmeeting last September. After a brief introduction, attendees chose one of four discussion groups and offered comments and questions to the facilitators. Many participants visited more than one break-out group, and comments were recorded in each session’s notes. All input has been documented and will be part of a report being prepared for City Council and other decision-makers.
An anonymous questionnaire has been created to collect information from residents on what they love most and like least about Pasadena and how they would like to be more involved. Results will be tabulated, presented at March 14th PARTICIPATE PASADENA meeting, provided to city officials, and used tohelp Pasadena Heritage develop future programs.
