The College

St Anne’s is a modern, informal, academically ambitious College and is one of the largest in the University. It is known for its domestic setting and the diversity of its student body. It is an energetic and friendly co-educational community of some 730 students plus tutors and staff.

St Anne’s has a radical tradition. It can trace its origins back to 1879, and the formation of the Association for the Education of Women in Oxford. It became a College in 1952 and first admitted men in 1979. The College has always set its face outwards towards the world, driven by its commitment to making accessible the opportunities of an Oxford education to those of academic potential who otherwise might not encounter them. The College has over 422 undergraduate students and, in recent years, has built up its graduate community to around 308. It has a small endowment, and relies on its successful vacation conference business and upon the generosity of its large and committed alumnae base to secure its financial stability. The Nursery at St Anne’s College

St Anne’s College Day Nursery is a full-time day nursery, located in a purpose-built detached building and private garden within the grounds of St Anne’s College. It caters for up to 12 children (though it has permission for 13 currently), aged 6 months to 5 years, and is open year round (8.45 a.m. to 5.15 p.m. Monday to Friday) except for three weeks in August and one week and a day during Winter closure and a week during Spring closure (including bank holidays).

The oldest day nursery within the University, it was founded to provide childcare for Tutorial Fellows and staff of the College. If space permits we also offer places to children of University staff and the wider community. Some children have part-time places, so that although the Nursery is limited to 13 children per session, up to 18 children in total are normally enrolled at any one time. There are five members of staff in the Nursery (one full-time and four part time): the Nursery Managers (job share), Deputy Nursery Managers(job share) and two Nursery Nurses. There is also a Nursery Fellow, a member of the College’s Governing Body (usually a parent of the Nursery) who has overall responsibility for the Nursery. The Nursery Fellow is Chair of the Nursery Management Committee whose members support the Nursery Fellow and Managers to manage the Nursery.
