Application Guidelines

Please read carefully before filling out the application below

Eligibility:

-  The Applicant must be of Palestinian origin (regardless of her/his place of birth or residence), or be from the Golan Heights.

-  The Applicant must be between 22 – 30 years old at the time of submission, i.e. born between 1/1/1986 and 31/12/1993.

-  Students enrolled in undergraduate degree programmes in the visual arts at the time of submission are NOT eligible to apply.

-  Previous winners of the First Prize for the Young Artist Award are NOT eligible.

Criteria:

-  The applicant can apply with one project only.

-  All applications MUST be made electronically via the application form available from the AMQF website.

-  Incomplete application forms, and/or with missing supporting material will not be considered.

-  Proposals for projects that don’t respond or are not related to the curatorial concept of YAYA 2016 will not be considered.

-  Artworks in any media or form of visual art are eligible for submission – including, for example, painting, drawing, sculpture, printmaking, photography, moving image, installation and performance, or other media. Conceptual and socially engaged artistic practices are also welcomed.

-  The proposed artwork must be conceived and produced exclusively for the Young Artist Award, and should not under any circumstances be exhibited anywhere other than the Award exhibition before the announcement of the prize in Autumn 2016.

-  Selected artists will be expected to work in close collaboration with the Curator of the YAYA 2016. The Curator will be in continuous conversation with the artists during the entire development and production period of the Award. Curator and artists will work together towards completing and delivering the artworks in due time for the preparation of the Award Exhibition (see relevant dates below).

-  Selected artists will receive a Production Grant of $1,000 USD to go towards the cost of producing their work, to be paid in two installments. Artists will be expected to budget for their production costs accordingly and take full responsibility for covering any additional production costs themselves.

Timeline:

-  The deadline for receipt of applications is March 25th 2016

-  Ten successful applicants, referred to as Finalists, will be selected by an invited Jury and announced by April 7th 2016.

-  The Finalists, in conversation with the Curator, are to have clarified and formalized the concepts which they proposed in their application forms by May 20th 2016.

-  Finalists will have at least one personal meeting (in person or via Skype) during the months of June and July with the Curator to discuss their projects before beginning production.

-  The Finalists are expected to provide the Curator with the installation and display requirements of their project by July 31st 2016.

-  The final production period of the Finalists’ projects will be throughout the months of August and September 2016.

-  Art projects must be finalized and ready for installing in the YAYA 2016 exhibition by September 12th 2016.

-  The Award exhibition will be held in Palestine and will be opened on October 5th. It will run until October 31st 2016. The exhibition is going to be part of the Qalandiya International 2016 events which are scheduled to run October 5th – October 31st 2016.

-  The First, Second and Third prize awards will be announced during the first week of the Award exhibition.

PART III: The Proposed Artwork

7.  Any spatial specificities for the exhibition and presentation of the artwork with some sketches/drawings/images/video to demonstrate (these should be attached or sent as links if uploaded online. Please state below the exact names of the files, if attached, and/or provide the relevant links).

·  Project rationale (maximum 250 words)*:

Please elaborate on your motivations to participate in YAYA 2016. How is your participation with this project relevant to your artistic practice and interests?

·  Budget*:

Provide a detailed estimated budget for the production of the artwork. This should cover the purchase of materials as well as construction costs, and anything else that might be required for successful completion of the artwork. Your budget should also allow for any practical or technical research required (if applicable). Please provide the budget plan in a separate document and send it with the Application Form.

PART V: Examples of previous artworks*

Please provide examples of your previous work in formats that demonstrate and represent the artworks most closely. These can include images, videos, and/or audio works.

2.  By hand or express courier service:

If you are unable to send examples of your previous work by email, you may deliver them by hand at the A.M. Qattan Foundation offices in Ramallah, or send them by one of the express courier services. The examples should be placed on a DVD and include captions for each example included. The captions should include the title, date, medium, dimensions and brief description for each sample included in the DVD. Please number the image files to correspond with the list of captions. For IMAGES/VIDEO STILLS provide a maximum of 10 examples (size: 300 dpi, format: JPEG), for VIDEOS provide a maximum of 3 examples, for AUDIO provide a maximum of 3 examples (format: WAV or AIFF)

PART IV: Recommendations

The application material should be followed by 2 recommendation letters provided by persons familiar with your work and art practice.
