Part A – JOB DESCRIPTION

Overall purpose of role / Responsible for the design and delivery of a variety of initial learning courses and programmes including student officers (IPLDP), PCSOs and Special Constables. Ensuring students are developed appropriately, effectively and efficiently and with regards to their welfare and wellbeing.
Key outputs for role –
1. Lead by example and behave in line with the Police Code of Ethics and Force Purpose and Values, taking appropriate action to ensure that all your team members do likewise.
2.Train, develop and assess students practically to the relevant College of Policing Standard, in accordance with current force policy, procedures and guidelines. Ensuring that force policy, procedures and relevant legislations are complied with.
3.Research developments in and amendments to law and procedures, recommending and initiating amendments to course content, ensuring the training is relevant and current.
4.Conduct relevant training needs analysis and contribute towards the design of associated courses and materials to ensure any gaps in training or supporting material are identified and resolved
5. Monitor the performance of students against specified targets, debriefing and providing feedback as necessary and completing appropriate written assessment reports where required, sharing feedback with fellow trainers so that skill levels within the department can be developed and maximised
6 .To plan, prepare and deliver learning interventions to develop police officers and police staff, facilitating opportunities for learning and personal development in accordance with the West Yorkshire Police Learning and Development Strategy
7.Monitor the welfare and health and safety of students during a course/programme and ensure the maintenance of discipline and professional standards Liaise with colleagues in Districts/Departments if necessary regarding progress of students.
8. Commit to and work towards our ambition to deliver effective and efficient policing and behaving in line with theCode of Ethics, and acting as a ‘role model’

  • Member of a large Team of Foundation Trainers providing training to all operational police officers and selected support staff within West Yorkshire Police.
  • Training also provided to some outside agencies.
  • Reports submitted regarding all course attendees

Internal:All staff within the organisation and other specialist departments to provide training and expertise in delivering initial learning.
External:Other learning and development agencies (particularly College of Policing) other Police Forces, other emergency services and relevant partner agencies, visiting speakers and role actors.

  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively at a range of levels with the ability to convey particle application
  • Up-to-date knowledge of police law and procedures
  • Knowledge of and ability to operate Force IT systems.
  • Can demonstrate knowledge of current training methods within West Yorkshire Police.
