Part 1: Job Description
1.0 Purpose:The Janus programme aims to prevent reception into care and/or to support community or foster placements. The programme also aims to support young people returning to the community from residential care/ custody.
The Intensive Home Support Service provides intensive wraparound services to young people and their parents assessed as being in need, and offers a community based alternative to care.
The programme is creative and dynamic, utilising local, regional and national resources to facilitate intervention strategies. Planned and responsive overnights and residentials are integral to the programmes
Project Workers will be required to be deliver all aspects of the programme in a flexible manner as part of a team. They will work in close partnership with statutory agencies, community resources and the young person’s family.

13.0 Key Responsibilities:
Service Users
· In conjunction with line manager review and plan for new referrals including completion of initial assessment of service user.
· Contribute to the development of appropriate service user plans e.g. support plan, risk management plans.
· Ensure all aspects of case management are undertaken including intervention planning and recording of all relevant information in line with Extern policy and legal requirements.
· Facilitate and participate in all aspects of planned interventions with service users (e.g. group work, overnight residential, individual & activities)
· Facilitate delivery of responsive interventions when required to meet service user needs.
· Minimum 26 hour direct service delivery per week (pro rata).
Risk Management
· Assist in the development of service users risk assessments and continually review and amend as and when required.
· Follow necessary risk management requirements e.g. room checks, medication administration, on call procedures.
· Adhere to safeguarding procedures and relevant internal & external policy and standards.
· Contribute to the efficient and effective use, maintenance and security, of physical resources in relation to own and others’ work within the project.
· Undertake relevant risk management training, and liaise with line manager in regard to any changes in service user risks.
· To risk assess each planned activity in line with Externs policy.
· To facilitate activities in line with Extern’s approved centre list.
· Ensure appropriate use of all physical resources provided, including safe storage and access by approved personnel only.
Communication (Internal & External)
· Work in a Multi-agency and multi-disciplinary manner with both internal and external stakeholders.
· Attend and participate in internal and external meetings as required and act as advocate for service user when appropriate e.g. team meetings, multi-disciplinary meetings etc.
· Develop and maintain appropriate professional relationships with Services Users, colleagues and stakeholders.
· Represent Extern professionally through a variety of communication mediums, e.g. Emails, telephone contact, and presentations.
· Ensure all communication is in line with Extern key messaging and corporate branding.
Recording
· Ensure compliance with necessary recording requirements e.g. information management systems, service user files, case notes.
· Complete individual reports in a timely manner at an acceptable standard.
· Ensure Data Protection legislation is adhered to and that service user right to confidentiality is protected including securing confidential information.
· Record and provide receipts for all petty cash, and ensure money is responsibly secured and utilised effectively.
· Complete weekly time sheets through use of online diary.
Supervision
· Engage fully in the Extern supervision process for professional development, case management and utilise for professional problem-solving.
· In conjunction with management, assist in the induction, supervision and training of new staff, relief staff, students and volunteers.
Training
· Responsible for keeping updated on Extern’s policies and procedures.
· Attend all core training, in line with Extern requirements (e.g. TCI & First Aid)
· Identify and discuss professional training needs and training programmes with line manager, in order to maximise own potential and development.
· Utilise other forms of self-directed learning to maximise professional learning (e.g. research articles, shadowing opportunities)
· Ensure that learning gained is implemented in practice and where possible shared with team members.

Health & Safety
· Adhere to Extern’s Health & Safety Policies and Procedures e.g. Lone Working Policy, transport policy
· Will act as a key holder for any buildings and secure the buildings as appropriate.
· Ensure completion of project vehicle checks, and report any maintenance or safety issues evident.
· Complete training and adhere to all Fire Safety regulations.
Project Specific Duties:
This role is to provide a wraparound to families which will require 7 day a week service from the team and flexible working will be required.
Deliver 26 hours direct work to service user(s) as part of overall Intensive Home Support Service in their home and in the community
Provide intensive on-call support
Provide planned and responsive respite overnights for the young person and/or their family.
Part 2: Person Specification
Title: Project Workers (Janus/Intensive Home Support Services)

Essential Criteria
1. Obtained 5 passes (Grade A-C) in a minimum of 5 subjects at Leaving Certificate (Ordinary level) or equivalent qualification (e.g. FETAC Level 5) in a relevant subject e.g. child care/youth work.
2. A minimum of 2 years’ experience (paid or voluntary capacity) of direct work with young people aged 5-18 in a structured environment e.g. residential setting, youth project, social work/care, etc. and / OR 2 years’ experience of direct work with parents in a structured and responsive way to support their parenting skills and capacity.
3. Must have a full driving licence and access to a car with relevant business insurance. (Please note this driving criteria will be waived in the case of an applicant whose disability prohibits driving but who is able to demonstrate their ability to meet the mobility requirements of the post).
4. In addition, successful applicants must be available to work irregular hours including residential overnights, evenings, and weekends. And provide on call support to the families on the project.
Desirable Criteria
5. A Professional Qualification, Level 7 (as per the National Framework of Qualifications- www.nfq-qqi.com) in Social Work, Youth and Community Work, Social Care or related Social Science Discipline, Diploma or Degree level.
