PARK WOLFPACK GIRLS BASKETBALL

Parents,

Thank you for supporting your daughter in her desire to participate in this year’s Park Girls Basketball season. We are very excited about the great group of girls who are with us. In the Park GBB program we will strive to teach the players the game of basketball and help them to improve on their individual and team skills as the season progresses. Equally important as the game is team chemistry. Our coaching staff believes in developing not only basketball players, but a team. We will strive to assist our players to bring their many different personalities together for the good of the team. In doing this, it is our goal that new friendships and lasting memories will be formed.

Below are requests from the coaching staff to the parent to help everyone in having an enjoyable season. We ask that you respect these requests so that our program which includes players, coaches and parents be represented in manner that displays class and respect for the game and each other.

  • Please cheer for your daughter and her team. Please refrain from yelling at them. During games please realize the coaches will be instructing the players, so please do not compete for their attention. Please be encouraging and cheer for both teams and for quality play, but don’t yell instructions. That is the coaches’ job. Thank you.
  • Please RESPECT the coach’s decision. Players will play where the coaches feel that player will be most successful. Playing time is based upon results in practice; including attendance, attitude, attention and understanding the philosophies and systems in the program.
  • Please do not yell at the referees. Again, that is the coach’s job to question, argue or encourage the referees. We do not want to get a warning from a referee because of a parent or fan that is out of control.
  • If you have a problem with something in the program that affects you or your daughter, please address your player’s coach, not another parent. Also, if you have a problem with a specific coach, you talk to that coach first. If the problem persists, speak to the head coach.
  • Coaches will not discuss another player, parent, team decisions or game strategy with you. The decisions made for the team are made by the coaches and many times the players input is given. It is not up to the parents to decide if those decisions are correct or not. If you have a concern after a game, please wait to contact the coach the next day, not right after the game.
  • ALL SCHEDULES AND DIRECTIONS TO GAMES WILL BE ON OUR ATHLETICS WEB PAGE. Please try to use it before calling the AD secretary.

ProcedureS for Handling Player/Parent Concerns

In order to maintain a positive atmosphere and assure that the proper channels of communication will not be circumvented, a procedure has been outlined for the use of the athlete, parent, coach, and administrators. All participants should adhere to the guidelines as listed below.

Step 1: Student-athlete meets with head coach to discuss the concern. Assistant (position) coaches may also be involved.

If the student is not satisfied with the results of that meeting, then

Step 2: Student-athlete AND parent meets with head coach to discuss the concern.

If the student and/or parent is not satisfied with the results of that meeting, then

Step 3: Student-athlete, parent, and head coach meet with activities director to discuss the concern.

If the student and/or parent is not satisfied with the results of that meeting, then

Step 4: Student-athlete, parent, head coach, and activities director meet with building principal to discuss the concern.

This procedure has been developed for the purpose of establishing and maintaining the lines of communication between the school, parents/guardians, and students and for the resolution of concerns related to the athletic programs. This procedure is a means by which concerns/ problems about the Park High School athletic programs can be resolved.
