Dear Park Lane Patrons and Families,
Wow! Thank you so much for your support of our PTA Fun Run Fundraiser this year! It was a huge success, and I’m so impressed with the caliber of volunteers that have helped this go so smoothly. We at Park Lane Elementary are so incredibly fortunate to have the absolute BEST PTA! Thank You!
Speaking of volunteers, I have to give a huge shout-out to our fabulous volunteers who put together such a wildly wonderful book fair. The decorating looked professional, and those volunteers make such a big project look like a piece of cake.
Speaking of dessert one more shout-out has to go to our PTA volunteers for putting together such a nice dinner for the faculty during parent-teacher conferences. Those kinds of things really help our teachers feel appreciated. Thank you!
Here are some other celebrations, happenings, and reminders:
Attendance –Thank you parents for a great start with student attendance this year! Students are doing a great job of getting to school on time, and we appreciate your help. These small steps are truly impactful when we realize the full effect of attendance on student success.
Bond – The Canyons Board of Education on Tuesday, Aug. 22, 2017 endorsed a plan to continue building momentum in CSD’s efforts to modernize and upgrade schools across the District while also adequately planning for growth. Members of the Board of Education cast a historic vote to seek voter approval of a $283 million, tax-rate-neutral bond on the Nov. 7 ballot. If the bond passes, Park Lane will receive a couple of small renovations. The first will bring natural lighting into all the classrooms via skylights. The second will be to redesign the front office area in order to add increased safety and security and build ADA compliant facilities.
Help Please. Student Drop-off and Pick-up – Parents and guardians please don’t go up the front hill of the school and walk across the parking lot during arrival or dismissal. Every year we work to analyze safe walking routes for our students. The safest routes are to use the sidewalks from either the north or south sides of the building. While we realizethis might take a couple minutes longer, we really want to keep everyone safe. The last thing we want is for students going through the parking lot dodging buses and cars. Please help us out.
Linking the Rewards – If you haven’t yet linked your Smith’s, Fresh Market, Macey’s, Target, etc… rewards cards to Park Lane please consider doing so. These important partnerships cost nothing and bring the school a lot of money. For example, Smith’s recently sent us a check for $500 for recent purchases. It’s an easy fundraiser for the school – just link the rewards and they send us a check. I love it! Remember most companies require rewards to be linked annually – there is no extra cost to you.
New – Panther Strides – As mentioned at Back to School Night, we have begun our monthly recognition of students with our Panther Strides. This award is given to students who have demonstrated great academic or behavioral strides while at Park Lane. Congratulations to all of our September winners!
Halloween Parade and Parties– Our traditional Halloween Parade will be on October 31st (Halloween Day) at 9:00 a.m. In order to make the day a success, please adhere to the following guidelines:
- Student costumes should allow the student to participate in regular school activities and learning throughout the day before and after parade/parties.
- Please avoid costumes with full masks or full-face paint (for safety purposes we must be able to identify individual students).
- Costumes may not be violent, suggestive, or otherwise offensive to someone’s culture, gender, heritage, or religion. Violent props such as weapons may not be included at school.
- Please avoid clown costumes again this year given the current climate and movie release.
- All costumes must be school appropriate.
Parent Party Volunteers– If you are volunteering in the classroom for this or other parties in the future, you must fill out a volunteer application online and be cleared by the school district prior to attending. If you have any questions, please ask one of our friendly office staff members who will happily direct you.
School Community Council (SCC) – Our SCC continues to be one of the largest in the district, with 13 members (3 faculty members and 10 parents/guardians). Thank you for everyone who has volunteered to be on the committee. Please remember that the meetings are open meetings and other parents and members of the community are welcome to attend if they choose. Information about the meeting times and agendas/minutes are on the school’s website as well as on a bulletin board in the front hallway.
Student/Family Handbook – We have compiled and organized much of the basic Park Lane information for students and families in a handbook. This handbook is available online on the school’s website, and a hardcopy can be obtained in the office.
School Positions– Are you interested in working in the most fulfilling place I know of? No, I’m not talking about Disneyland. I’m talking about Park Lane Elementary! We occasionally need part-time help, as well as emergency substitutes to cover classes. If you are interested in helping in these areas please reach out to our secretary Jeannie Hill (801-826-9015, or ).
