‘Parivartan’ – The Slum Education Programme

13thSeptember, 2015 activity of ‘Parivartan’, the Slum Education Programme, a CSR initiative of ITS, Ghaziabad brought countless goodies to the slum children along with the regular learnings and eatables.

Volunteers of the day – Sakshi Gaur, Ashi Sharma, Abhishek Dutta, Ekansh Sharma, Amaan Siddiqui, Paritosh Sinha, Ujjwal Kumar, Mohit Jain and Abhay Jain started the class with the prayer and the regular check of the grooming and personal hygiene of the slum children.

The day’s activities included the counting from 1 to 100 followed by the table of 5 in Hindi and English. The practice and repetitions were loud and resounding. The children also revised the previous exercises i.e. the tables of 3 and 4.

The day got special and pulled additional crowd from all corners as two big sacs full of goodies like toys, stationery and other domestic items were noticed by the slum dwellers as soon as we reached the spot. Actually Parivartan had received these items from Ms. Monika Arora (wife of Mr. B.K. Arora, hon’ble Secretary – ITS Group) who usually keeps donating such items for the deprived children. There were two long queues of children haggling to get the best. Within half an hour the sacs got empty and the children were seen running here and there with joy announcing their success. The struggling volunteers literally felt like looted as the children had surrounded them from all sides compelling them to give them the items of their choice. But at the end the utmost satisfaction of doing something good was obvious on the faces of the volunteers.

The class ended with the distribution of cookies and chocolates among all the children. Prof. Gopal Krishna Dwivedi guided the volunteers and enjoyed the visit as the faculty coordinator of Parivartan Club.
