Dear Parents

Strike

You should by now all have received a letter and a text message to say will be closed on Thursday 17th October to pupils.

Parents Evenings

As you know you have been given a 10 minute time slot to meet your child’s class teacher next Monday or Tuesday. This is for parents only and you will have the opportunity to look at our child’s literacy and numeracy books.

Missing Fleece

Please could everyone that your child has the correct fleece. Lucas McCarlie’s fleece has been misplaced but it does have his name embroidered on the bottom. It would be greatly appreciated if you could double check at home this weekend. Thank you.

Disco

Disco tickets are currently being issued but I know FOFS have issued KS2 tickets to younger children by mistake. They are currently trying to rectify this. Last orders for tickets will be Friday 18th October.

Nursery

We are hoping to plant winter plants and bulbs with the children in Nursery this year. If anyone has any containers that could be decorated and used outdoors as plant pots, please could you send them in. Any donations of plants and bulbs would be gratefully received! Thank you.

Reception/Year 1

We have received a letter from the North of England Children’s Cancer Research this week to thank everyone who was involved in the Whickham Waddle. The children currently now in Reception and Year 1 managed to raise an outstanding £1553 for the charity! Well Done to everyone who was involved or donated to this very worthy cause.

Thank you to everyone who sent in unwanted uniform to school for spares. No more sweat/polo shirts are needed, however, we do still need underwear and tights.

Year 2

On Wednesday 16th October Year 2 will be taking part in a multi skills afternoon at Whickham Comprehensive. All children will need their outdoor PE kit in school.

We are developing a new resource in Year 2 to support counting skills. To do this we need Pringle shaped tubes, so over the next few weeks please can you try and send one or more into school – forget the diet for a few weeks, the Year 2 team are!!!

Well done on learning the 2X tables. We are now moving onto the 5X tables, please work with your child on this at home.

Thank you to all the helpers who came to the Discovery Museum and Church recently we couldn’t do it without you so Many Thanks!

Apologies to 4S!

Earlier this week children in year 4 became chefs for the morning. They worked with an expert chef and made and tested French cuisine. Whilst in their chefs’ hats they invited me into their restaurant and tried really hard to persuade me to sample garlic snails and frogs legs! I declined their very kind offer so need to say sorry for not being brave enough to try their no doubt delicious offerings! Miss Hoult on the other hand did sample the food so Well Done Miss Hoult!

Year 4

On Friday 18th October Year 4 will be building landmarks using a variety of media and materials. Please could all children bring in an old shirt to wear as an apron and to be kept at school for future art lessons too.

Year 5 Swimming

They swimming instructors are no longer able to supply goggles so children will need to supply their own.

If anyone has any queries or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact me.
