Please enclose an essay equivalent to a three to five (3-5) minute oral presentation which includes the following:

1.  The cooperative’s present value to its members and its community.

2.  The cooperative’s future value to its members and its community.

Please return this application and your essay by February 14 , to Ark Valley Electric Cooperative.


QUALIFICATIONS

1.  Junior or graduating Senior.

2.  Parent(s) of applicant must be member(s) of Ark Valley Electric Cooperative.

3.  Applicant must complete the application and submit an essay which is equivalent to a three to five (3-5) minute oral presentation. The essay must include the following:

A.  The cooperative’s present value to its members and community.

B.  The cooperative’s future value to its members and community.

4.  If the applicant is one of the five finalists, he or she must present their essay orally to the panel of judges and answer questions from the judges regarding their essay.

5.  Two applicants will be selected as winners.

TIME FRAME

1.  Application and essay must be submitted to Ark Valley Electric Cooperative by February 14.

2.  Five (5) applicant finalists will present their essay orally to the panel of judges and answer any questions regarding their essay. The two winners will be selected between March 15 and April 1. ($500.00 scholarship will be paid when applicant verifies enrollment in advanced education).


The following are suggested sources of information which may be of help to you in writing your essay:

1.  Public Library—Look under “cooperatives”, “REA”, or “RUS”, and “Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA)”.

2.  Interview older members of the Ark Valley Cooperative in your area.

3.  The Next Greatest Thing, a book published by the National Rural Electric Cooperative Association. A copy is available at Ark Valley, for loan. Limited copies.

4.  The following web-sites: National Rural Electric Cooperative Association at www.nreca.org, , Kansas Electric Cooperative, Inc. at www.kec.org. or Ark Valley Electric Cooperative at www.arkvalley.com.

5.  Historical information at Ark Valley Electric Cooperative office for research purposes. Due to the nature, items must be left at office.

6.  Bylaws and regulations of Ark Valley Electric Cooperative are available at the Ark Valley office.
