Parent-Child Program Home Visitor

SUPERVISOR: PCHP Program Coordinator and Site Manager

HOURS: 9-5 availability, seasonal position October through May

Flexible schedule may include evening hours based on client needs

CLASSIFICATION: hourly/part-time/non-exempt

JOB SUMMARY: Jericho Road Community Health Center is seeking motivated applicants for part-time Parent Child Home Visitor positions for locations within the City of Buffalo, to start October, 2017.

The Jericho Road Parent-Child Home Program (PCHP) is a home-based early childhood literacy and school readiness program. Home visitors work with families with children ages 18 months to 4 years with high concentration of low income families, single parents, refugee families, and families whose first language is not English. Home visitors are trained to model simple, comfortable and fun techniques which increase verbal interaction between the parent/caregiver and young child using books and toys provided by the program.

QUALIFICATIONS:

●High school level education or higher

●Enjoys playing and reading with young children

●Exhibits warmth and patience when working with toddlers and families

●Adequate verbal and written communication skills

●Self directed, organized, creative problem-solving capabilities

●Able to work with diverse families and non-traditional family structures

●Commitment to the organizational mission and values of JRCHC

●Personal transportation required; mileage reimbursed per schedule

●Preference will be given to applicants who reside in the community to be served

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:

●Develop and maintain positive relationships with familiesand assist them in identifying their strengths

●Focus on helping families to identify strategies to prepare children for school success

●Schedule and provide home visits twice a week for half an hour each and keep accurate records of visits

●Write a report for each home visit in a timely manner and maintain updated family files

●Model for parent appropriate ways to verbally interact with their child using program books & toys

●Attend mandatory weekly two and a half hour staff meeting and additional trainings as scheduled

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Must be able to sit or stand for long periods of time. Exert up to 50 lbs., pushing, pulling or lifting. Walking, climbing stairs required. Able to talk/hear, communicate with others with or without reasonable accommodation.
