Palms will place Margaret and David Hall to
work at Sao Francisco De Assis, training for
two years.
Margaret will work in midwife/maternal and child
health with a small nursing team led by Snr Alfredo
Manuel. She will assist with skill development in
clinical care and health education, particularly for
women, and planning and managing community based
health services. As community development officer,
David will develop skills among youth towards effective
community participation, provide training and support to the indigenous nurses and staff in health
promotion, community education, water supply maintenance and project management. David will also
network between the Atabae parish and the “Friends and Partners with East Timor”, a Brisbane parish
(The Gap) which provides resources to Atabae to assist in building the capacity of the community.
Palms Australia works for sustainable and interdependent development by working alongside local
workers and sharing ideas and techniques. Working side-by-side rather than a “chalk and talk” approach
can often be a more effective way of passing on skills
Your contribution to Margaret and David’s placement in Timor Leste will assist Sao Francisco De
Assis, Palms Australia and the Friends and Partners for East Timor in meeting the many costs
involved in bringing about community-benefit activities in the areas of education, health, water
supply and economic development in the Parish of Atabae.
Margaret and David are realistic about the challenges that lie ahead and will miss family, friends and life in
Broome. They believe this opportunity is not only for them but also for their communities in Australia. Your
financial and prayerful support of Margaret and David will enable you to participate in this wonderful and essential
work. You would become part of a community of people working for the Atabae community, and supporting their
participation in society. Should you choose to support Margaret and David in this work, you too will learn about
