Introduction

There were several reasons for me to choose the topic. The first reason was a personal interest. Another reason was the urgency of the problem and the fact that the CzechRepublichasn’t coped with this problem yet.

There are some aims to manage. The main aim of the doctoral thesis is to reflect the current situation of education for foreigners from the point of view on the primary school teachers. Sub-aims are identifying key issues of integration in primary school, analyzing legislative documents focusing on education of foreigners and last one is to make the register of publications dealing with foreigners´ education.

Dissertation thesis is divided in theoretical and empirical part. The theoretical part of the thesis describes conditions and facts aboutthe process of education of foreign students. The empirical part of dissertation thesis illustrates the methodological approach of problem.

The main contribution of the dissertation thesis to school practice will be identification of key issues of integration of foreign children, overview of legislative documents and publications addressing to the issue of foreigners and methodical recommendations for the effective education of foreign children.

Theoretical part

The theoretical part of the thesis is divided in the chapters whichcreate a theoretical base of empirical part. At the beginning there are definitions to describe the problem of education of foreigners. One of the first chapters want to illustrate the legislative aspect of the problem. It´s followed by description of theeducation of foreigners in CzechRepublic and intercultural aspect of education of foreigners in primary school. This chapterdeals withthe relationshipbetweenteacherand foreigner pupil. One of the important themes isa student and aprimary school teacher in a multicultural environment.Key problems of integration of foreign students and intercultural differences amongstudentsneed to be analyzed after that. Very important chapter will be the intercultural competenceof teachers. In this chapter I would like to describe and define special knowledge, skills and attitudes of teachers.

Empirical part

The empirical part deals with pedagogical research which is divided into five stages. First stage is Determination of the research problem. The research problem is this question: Are the current primary school teachers qualified to educate the foreign pupils?Another important step is the choice of sources and resources and research methods.

There are three levels of researchin the thesis, it´s the pilot research, the partial study and the main research. The first part of the pilot research wasthe Q-methodology.The results of theQ-methodologyare following by statements of qualitative SEIQoL method.Theresults ofboth methodswill be formed to finalquestionnaire, which is going to beverified in the partial study. The final questionnaire will detectlevel of knowledge, skills and attitudes of primary school teachers.

Field of research will be the CzechRepublic. Three steps to choose respondents were realized. At first it was intentional multiple selection, next step was random selection of cities and the last one was stratified random selection of schools. The final questionnaire will detect the level of knowledge, skills and attitudes of primary school teachers.

All data are going to be processed using statistical methods. They are also going to be interpreted using tables and charts.

The partial results of pilot research were presented at conferences and published.
