PAIMAN Contributes to Meet the Second Delay of Labor

PAIMAN with USAID funding procured 48 State of Art Ambulances to meet the MNCH emergencies, thus reducing the maternal and newborn deaths due to second delay of labor. The ambulances will be handed over to the departments of health for selected health facilities in new PAIMAN districts.

Ambulance Handing Over Ceremony was organized at Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS) Islamabad in which 23 State of the Art Ambulances were handed over to departments of health of two district of AJK (8 ambulances) and 15 ambulances were handed over to five districts of NWFP including Mardan, Charssadda, D.I.Khan, Peshawar and Swat. The ceremony was honored by the presence of Mr. Faisal Karim Kundi Deputy Speaker National Assembly of Pakistan as Chief Guest; Ms. Anne W. Patterson - Ambassador for USA in Pakistan, Dr. Khushnood Lashari-Secretary Health, Ms. Mehreen Bhutoo Parliamentary Secretary Health Committee National Assembly -Pakistan, Mr. Jim Beweer Director for Operations in Afghanistan and Pakistan-USAID and Mission Director - USAID. The ceremony was witnessed by dignitaries from Ministry and Departments of health and Population Welfare department of districts from AJK and NWFP, along with PAIMAN consortium Partners and stakeholders. Chief of Party-Dr. Nabeela Ali, gave an over view of PAIMAN project, its contributions and achievements to the gathering. One of the mothers benefitted by PAIMAN ambulance gave her views on how the life of her son was saved with the help of ambulance provided by PAIMAN. The honored guests praised the contributions of PAIMAN and reaffirmed their continued support for MNH.

Six state of art ambulances were handed over to district Multan & Vehari on 14 Oct,09. The Ambulance Handing Over ceremony was held at Directorate General of Health Service Punjab, Lahore. Secretary Health Punjab, Mr. Anwar Ahmad Khan, graced the ceremony as Chief Guest. COP Dr. Nabeela Ali and PSO to Prime Minister, Mr. Yousaf Naseem Khokhar were the guest of honor. DGHS Punjab, Dr. Mohammad Aslam Chaudary hosted the ceremony in his office with the PAIMAN support. COP Dr. Nabeela Ali presented the overview of PAIMAN project in Pakistan and in the districts of Punjab. Secretary health and PSO to Prime Minister appreciated the inputs of PAIMAN and anticipated that PAIMAN shall continue its support to the provincial & district health department for the cause of mothers and newborns. DGHS and PC MNCH also appreciated the valuable support of PAIMAN towards achievement of MDGs in the Punjab province. PAIMAN Consortium Partners, the provincial Program managers of Punjab, EDOHs and In-charges of the selected health facilities from District Multan and Vehari participated. At the end the chief guest handed over the ambulances to the EDOs health of district Multan and Vehari.
