INSTRUCTIONS FOR AUTOMATED ATTENDANTS:
An Automated Attendant must first have form 8A completed with VM Type = 4.
If you wish a caller to be able to transfer to a specific extension(s), the extension of the individual, bulletin board, or next Automated Attendant menu should be provided in the EXTENSION CALLED field associated with the USER PROMPT digit you wish to have the party dial in order to reach that extension.
If you wish a caller to be able to transfer to any extension(s) enter an "E" in the EXTENSION CALLED field associated with the USER PROMPT digit that begins with the first digit of the extension, e.g. to be able to call any extension that begins with "4" such as 41234, enter an "E" on the line for Digit 4. This is not normally done.
When the USER PROMPT selection transfers the party back to an extension on the PBX system, enter "T" in the DESTINATION TREATMENT field. When the USER PROMPT transfers the party within Voice Mail to a Voice Mail announcement/bulletin board, directly to a mailbox, or to another Automated Attendant, enter "CA" in the DESTINATION TREATMENT field.
Callers should not be required to go through more than three Automated Attendant menus before reaching the final destination. Callers may not leave messages in an Automated Attendant mailbox. They must transfer to an extension that has a mailbox that is not an announcement/bulletin board/Automated Attendant in order to leave messages.
The DEFAULT COVERING EXTENSION is the extension that a caller is automatically transferred to if they don't dial a digit. The covering extension should be answered by office personnel during normal business hours.
