MINNEAPOLIS – Cummins Power Generation has introduced the new RA family of automatic transfer switches that integrate seamlessly with its new Connect Series residential and light commercial standby generators. RA transfer switches are designed for quick installation and safe, dependable operation in the event of a utility power failure.
The RA transfer switch monitors utility power 24 hours a day and 7 days a week. If utility power becomes unstable or fails, the transfer switch signals the backup generator set to start, then automatically transfers the load from the utility to the generator. When stable utility voltage returns, the transfer switch will automatically switch electrical loads from the generator back to the utility. No action is required by the owner.
Designed for quick and easy installation, the RA transfer switch features solderless screw-type terminals for all external power connections. It also has high-pressure, silver alloy contacts that resist burning and pitting for a long service life. The copper ground and neutral bus connections are also silver plated for better conductivity and reliability.
Safety features include a mechanically interlocked contactor that prevents the simultaneous closing of normal and emergency contacts. Electrical interlocks also prevent accidental interconnection of normal and emergency sources through the control wiring. These UL 1008 listed switches are suitable for standby power systems in residential and light commercial applications. These RA products adhere to National Electrical Code (NEC) and National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) requirements.
