2. Venofer (IV iron administration) guideline
Meeta Mallik presented the guideline for ratification.
  • There had been a number of amendments from the circulated guideline after the NICE guidance had been added. This needs to be edited and re-configured. The guideline will then be re-circulated by email and if there are no objections, will then be ratified.
/ Meeta Mallik to make necessary amendments.
3. Central venous lines in renal patients
Meeta Mallik presented the guideline for ratification.
  • The dose/units of heparin used in line locks and flushes was discussed and the phrase “<100unit/ml” to be used to ensure that more concentrated solutions are never used
  • Urokinase locks, infusions and push locks to be highlighted to ensure differences noted.

5. Haemodyalisis

  • It was stressed that only approved people can prescribe dialysis. This is not to be done by junior doctors. The possibility of starting a register that contains the names of those approved to prescribe dialysis was discussed and thought to be a very sensible idea!
  • References to be put at the end of the guideline.
  • The guideline was accepted.
/ Roy Connell to make amendments
6. Outline of Upcoming Guideline Programme
  • Guidelines accepted in the meeting will then have necessary amendments made, be put into the trust format by Damian Wood or Donna Traves and thenbe uploaded to nottinghamchildhealth and registered with trust prior to being put on the trust website. Some of the renal guidelines are very specific to the Nottingham unit and will only be placed on the trust website and not be for wider use.
  • Damian explained that there are still guidelines which are being updated and awaiting ratification. There are also a number that have been ratified and are awaiting uploading to the trust website. Finally Damian is updating the nottinghamchildhealth website and over the next few weeks hopes to have this updated with the current status of all guidelines noted on the site.
  • Simon Robinson will ensure that links from emitten to nottinghamchildhealth are up to date.
