3Suggestions & Planning of PAIG Conference 2014. Venue, date, theme, speakers

  1. Tittle of Conference: ‘What we know’ – ‘what we do’

a)Theme: Conductive Permanent HL

b)Aim is to look at evidence based practice.

  1. Date of conference: 3rd July 2014, Venue: has been confirmed in Birmingham
  2. Phonak:

a)Still willing to support the conference.

b)Will be holding the venue before/after the conference as Phoank may be holding an event.

Action: SH to contact Phoank and speakers

  1. Topics raised:

a)Jane:

  • Analysis and discussion about outcome measures
  • Difficulties for deaf children to achieve and integrate resulting in mental health problems
  • Real paediatric mid-term outcomes – how/why the system is failing many deaf youngsters

b)Claire:

  • Draft guideline on paediatric tinnitus – consultation process and comment invitation
  • Mental health – anxiety and other issues
  • We cannot deal with ‘just ears’

c)Merle:

  • Dr Lorna Halliday: Speech Perception and language in children with mild-moderate hearing loss

d)Judy Halden:

  • Educational, Health & Care Plans: National children’s bureau / council ; final version of the code of practice
    presentation & discussion + NDCS perspective
  • Specialist S&L therapist with good understanding of the permanent conductive hearing loss?
  • Ros Herman to ask for names

  • Addenbrooke’s cleft specialist S&L

e)Wendy McCracken

  • Role of the ToD for children with mild/moderate hearing loss / conductive hearing loss aided and unaided children
  • How people work together as teams

f)Stuart Harris:

  • Multidisciplinary networks? good examples? Models of care for hearing problems
  1. Structure of conference:
  • Decided to have Q&A Panel for each theme. Rather than workshops, breakout sessions.
  • Submission of questions in advance or at lunchtime to be discussed as well as ongoing.
  • Leave good presentation to end ??
  • No workshops if one day conference only.
  • Not much time left so will possibly need to locate and book person fast so perhaps need to see who is available
