SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM 2015-2016

PROGRAM PURPOSE

The PacifiCorp Settlement Agreement Scholarship is intended to provide college scholarships to eligible Crow Tribal Membersattending an approved accredited college, university, junior college, or a vocational/technical school as a full time student, or an Apprenticeship Program.

STUDENT ELIGIBILITY

Applicant must be an enrolled member of the Crow Tribe of Indians.

Applicant must be a High School Graduate or obtain a High SchoolEquivalency (GED) before entering college, university, junior college, or a vocational/technical school.

Applicant must be accepted for enrollment at an accredited college, University, Junior college, vocational/Technical school or an Apprenticeship program..

Applicant must be actively pursuing an undergraduate degree or non-degreed vocational/technical training.

Applicant must submit a completed application packet and meet all deadlines.

Applicant must carry a minimum of 12 credits and maintain a minimum of a 2.0 term grade point average (GPA) or an apprenticeship program progress report.

SECOND SEMESTER ELIGIBILITY

RECIPIENTS MUST MAINTAIN A MINIMUM OF A 2.0 TERM (GPA), FOR THE FALL SEMESTER AND CARRY A MINIMUM OF 12 CREDITS. RECIPIENTS WHO FALL BELOW THIS ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS WILL BE TERMINATED FROM THE SCHOLARSHIP FOR THE WINTER/SPRING SEMESTER.

APPRENTICESHIP PROGRAM RECIPIENTS MUST HAVE ATTENDED ALL CONTINUOUS DAYS/MONTHS/YEARS OF THE PROGRAM WITHOUT A BREAK AND SUBMIT PROGRESS REPORT

INSTITUTION ELIGIBILITY

Scholarships will only be awarded for attendance at an accredited twoor a four year college, university, or trade school.

Eligible Institutions must meet at least one of the criteria set forth below:

A College or University meeting the accreditation requirement of one of the regional accrediting bodies associated with the American Council of Education.

A community/Junior or tribal College or a college preparatory, secondary, trade, technical or business school approved by an appropriate governmental agency or state department of education or another reputable agency.

PACIFICORP & APSAÁLOOKE NATION SETTLEMENT AGREEEMENT SCHOLARSHIPCOMMITTEE

The Apsaálooke Nation will develop and maintain a committee comprised of the appropriate Apsaálooke Nation’s Department of Education’s employees, Legislature’s Chairman of the Education Sub-Committee and a member of the Elected Executive Branch. This committee will review applications and make final scholarship award selections.

SELECTION CRITERIA

Recipients will be selected based on Academic Achievement and Unmet Need.

NOTE: The Apsaálooke Nation’s Department of Education will only fund one of the following types of degrees: One Year Certificate; AVT/Vo-Tech; AA/AS/AAS; BA/BS; Master and Ph.D. Once a student has earned their one year certificate or an AA/AS/AAS, they are expected to continue onto their BA/BS and if desired, on to graduate school. Our department is committed to your continuing education endeavors. Therefore, it was the decision of the Education Committee to ONLY fund ONE degree, (example, an AA/AS/AAS) from either of one of these degree(s) advance into a BA/BS program and further on to a graduate program, Master or Ph.D.

SCHOLARSHIP LIMIT: The number of qualified applicants will be divided equally into the total scholarship dollars of $9,645.00.

The Scholarship amounts will be in two disbursements. The first disbursement will be at the beginning of the fall quarter/semester and the second disbursement at the beginning of the winter/spring quarter/semester.

In order to receive the second disbursement students must submit their official grades/transcripts showing satisfactory progress, with a Minimum of a 2.0 Term grade point average for the fall quarter/semester. The student must also have completed and earned at least 12 credits.

The exception is the Apprenticeship Programs, (i.e. Electrical, Boiler, Welding, etc.)

SCHOLARSHIP RENEWAL

Students may reapply for this scholarship on an annual basis for up to three additional years beyond the freshman year. Past recipients may reapply for the additional years as long as they remain a full-time student and continue to maintain a minimum term 2.00 GPA. A previous recipient of a scholarship does not guarantee receipt in any subsequent year. Tthe “Academic Year” would be from July 1 through June 30 of the following year.

DISBURSMENT OF FUNDS

The Apsaálooke Nation Department of Education will be responsible for notifying scholarship recipients of their awarded dollar amounts, which is selected by the committee. The awarded dollar amounts will be determined by the student’s unmet need. These recipients will be required to meet qualifying selection guidelines established by the department and noted on their personal application.

Each recipient will be issued an award letter identifying the amount of their award from the Scholarship Committee referencing both Pacificorpand the Apsaálooke Nation as the issuers of the award.

A similar award letter will be issued to the institution which the recipient will be attending, outlining the amount of the award and the necessary procedures for receiving payment on the recipient’s behalf. The student is responsible for ensuring that the award letter is submitted to their learning institution’s financial aid office.

The Apsaálooke Nation’s Department of Education will be responsible for issuing the scholarship funds to the institution for credit towards the recipient’s expenses.

Quarterly, the Apsáalooke Nation’s Department of Education will reconcile their files to ensure all payments have been issued.

Awards issued from scholarship funds will be for tuition/books/fees/housing, as appropriate, as opposed to for ancillary costs such as tools, clothing, transportation, etc.

PACIFICORP and APSAALOOKE SCHOLARSHIP has limited funding available, completed applications will be awarded on a first come first served basis.
