DRAFT 072504

Pacific Northwest Region

Tuesday, July 20, 2004

Diamond High School

Anchorage, AK

BUSINESS MEETING

  1. Catherine Fritz (PNR President) reported that membership is strong in the Pacific Northwest Region. Other regions are catching up. There is interest from the Midwest/Great Lakes Region to adopt Manitoba. Gretchen DeDecker (PNR Membership Chair) will contact Manitoba members and work with Ron Fanning (M/GL; International President) to make sure Manitoba’s best interests are served by CEFPI.
  2. Ralph Saxton was nominated by Merle Kirkley, for Region President-Elect 2004-05; seconded by Mark Langberg. Voice vote by those present was unanimous in favor.
  3. The annual PNR regional conferences generate the primary source of funding for our region. Historically, conference profits are shared 60/40 between region and hosting chapter. Catherine wanted to especially recognize British Columbia’s generous 100% contribution from last summer’s Whistler conference, stating BC’s chapter’s treasury was strong, and BC wanted to support the region. BC received a strong round of applause.
  4. Catherine reported that the PNR summer board meeting was held on Sunday morning, July 18. Some highlights:
  5. The Board of Governors worked toward developing a 2-year budget cycle.
  6. Two items were discussed needing further chapters’ input: Consider contributing (from Region) towards International’s recently established Foundation, which supports research, scholarships, and special projects. And, consider contributing (from Region) for sponsorship at International conference. Catherine asked, regarding both of these items, that Chapter Governors discuss these matters with their respective Chapter and bring back comments to fall business meeting at Atlanta.
  7. The budget has been portioned into various categories: a base budget for essential items; a discretionary budget, that may fluctuate from year to year depending on funds available; and a reserve of $13,000 for use in lean years.
  8. The Guide has been published and distributed to those who pre-paid. The region suggests using the Guide as a training instrument for a workshop aimed at districts/boards who have recently received capital funding. Merle Kirkley will work with Lee Bauer (sp?) (headquarters) to develop potential sites.
  9. International hosted its bi-annual strategic planning session in Carefree AZ in June. The region intends to align our budgeting and business plan with this strategic plan. Gretchen DeDecker is taking the lead.
  10. The CEFPI web site continues to be a source for local, regional and international information.

Business meeting was concluded.
