P4P Minutes Friday 28Th October 2Pm SCHOOL REPORT: Parent Focus Group: Has Lots of Exciting

P4P Minutes Friday 28th October @2pm
SCHOOL REPORT:
Parent focus group:
has lots of exciting things to come.
Homework club is one of their projects and is going very well.
Read Write Count:
Bags have been issued to children. As these are such a good resource teachers have decided to issue homework from them.
Mrs Baird is running a workshop to show parents a few things from the bags.
Science- STEM workshop:
As part of this topic the school are going to be painting the portacabin at the back of the school. This will be used as an additional class room.
The plan is to paint it with things from Carmyle’s History.
Halloween disco:
Another great success. Everyone had a great time. A huge thank you to all the parent helpers and a special thank you to the staff.
Multi-purpose Room:
Staff have agreed to share this space with parents and children of the school.
It will be used as a sensory room, a room for parents aswell as a staff room.
Lisa has kindly offered to donate a large sensory light.
A worktop and cupboards are required in order for this room to be made safe for children (kettle has to be stored safely etc). Possibly looking for donations.
School development plan:
Focus on the way maths is taught. Lots of work being done on this.
CHRISTMAS FAYRE:
Saturday 3rd December 10am-1pm.
Free entry this year.
Stalls being advertised this year on facebay.
Prices are £15 or £10+raffle donation for previous stalls & relatives to school.
Hamper items are being split by Natalie and emailed to everyone.
Mrs Baird is organising childrens hamper, donations from teachers.
Mrs Baird will get a letter types up for shops for donations. Anyone needing a letter should ask either at school or Natalie for a copy.
Audrey has contacted all Carmyle shops already and has a donation from tunnocks.
Posters have started to be put up in shop windows.
It was agreed that Sharon will bring her snack van. This will prevent any issues with kitchen being used and free up P4P members to help on stalls.
Stalls will be allocated at next meeting.
SCHOOL PARLIAMENT FEEDBACK:
Excellent ideas from the pupils on what they would like the donations from the fire to be spent on.
Requests for more playground apparatus, particularly in the bigger playground.
Also a request for a chute.
The children also raised a concern regarding how little space they have for gym. They would like more gym time also.
Natalie will take this to the community centre committee in the hope of perhaps using the hall for some periods of gym.
Scottish Parliament Survey:
Natalie fed back the information from a meeting at Glasgow City Chambers run by GPCF that Lee Cartwright and herself attended.
The government are looking for feedback from parents regarding education in Scotland. From this they hope to make changes to the current system. They have issued a parent survey. This has to be completed by 6th January 2017.
This can be accessed via their website or from the parent council.
Lots of concerns were raised regarding this survey. The main one being it was very difficult for parents to understand and engage with.
These concerns were voiced very strongly to the representative from the Scottish government. GPCF(Glasgow Parent Council Forum) will keep the parent councils informed about their plans regarding this survey and all concerns raised.
VANDALISM:
This is still a huge issue for the school.
Salt has been scattered all over the school, items broken and now the little trees Mrs Baird had invested in have been damaged. This is very disheartening both for the pupils and the staff. The pupils are concerned for other playground items and also for anything they have planned for the future.
This is an issue that we feel we need to work on together, as a community.
This is something that the P4P will be focusing on and hopefully helping Mrs Baird tackle in the future.
