img src=http://www.nwlink.com/~holben/adverttissot.jpg> Timepieces from the Charles Tissot Watch Co. of Switzerland are among my favorite Swiss watches, very high quality and nicely designed. The firm was founded in Le Locle, Switzerland in 1853 by Charles Félicien Tissot and his son Charles-Emile. It is famous for its Tsars Watch (Russian Imperial Guard, 1904), Banana Exploding Tank (1915), the first antimagnetic watch (1930), and the Navigator (released 1953).
In 1925, the Omega Watch Co. hired Paul Tissot as its commercial director; in 1930 the two firms merged under the official name Societe Suisse pour l'lndustrie Horlogere (SSIH), with headquarters in Geneva. Later, Lemania would join this group.
The following original stainless steel model is the result of the partnership and, as watch historian Bruce Shawkey correctly points out (in the National Association of Watch & Clock Collectors August 2003 Bulletin), Tissot were not the lower price option to Omega. Indeed, they were originally marketed as an equal peer.
I am pleased to offer for sale the following men's Tissot timepiece, an original BUMPER automatic (self-winding) model (Ref. 6582) that dates to ca 1956 and is in great condition inside and out. This is a 28.5T-21 caliber example, first introduced by Tissot in 1952 and near identical in build and quality to an Omega bumper of the same period. Unlike your typical rotor automatic (that has a rotor that spins 360 degrees in both directions), a bumper automatic swings about 30 degrees back and forth, propelled by actual coiled springs built into the mechanism.p>Triple-signed for Tissot (dial, crown, case and mechanism), it measures 41mm lug tip to lug tip and 33.5mm in width (36mm with domed steel crown). This works out to be 1-5/8 inches long by 1-5/16 inches wide, not counting the winding crown. My watchmaker David has fully serviced its original 17 jewel, self-winding mechanism to ensure it winds and sets smoothly while keeping accurate time.
The silver, enamel finished dial is in great condition with just a light patina of age, it looks really nice. It features a 60 second outer track border, raised gold numerals and hour markers, original Dauphine-style hands with (new) luminous fill and a sweep center seconds hand. Signed <bTissot</i below the 12 and <iAutomatic </b above the 6.p>The acrylic crystal is in excellent, clear condition, a new addition. The two-piece, Tissot-signed case is Solid Stainless Steel and in excellent condition, complete nicely curved and sculpted lugs. The steel winding crown, unmarked, is in excellent shape, operating as it should.
Turning the watch over I note that the screw down back lid is signed Tissot, Swiss, Waterproof, Automatic, Non Magnetic, Shock Absorber. It is in great to excellent shape with just some pinpricks along the edge. Inside is a Seventeen Jewel, bumper automatic movement signed CHs TISSOT & FILS, SEVENTEEN 17 JEWELS, SWISS with serial number#2,893,598 dating it to ca 1956. Below the balance is the caliber: 28.5 T-21. The inside case lid is nicely engine-turned and signed CHARLES TISSOT & FILS, TISSOT FAB. SUISSE, SWISS MADE, 6582-6, ACIER INOXYDABLE.
This nice, original watch has been completely overhauled by my watchmaker to ensure it winds and sets smoothly while keeping accurate time. It is fitted on a new 18mm black deBeer lizard grain calf leather band with stainless buckle. All in all a great looking, great condition timepiece from one of Switzerland’s better watch companies.p<ulli>Since 1998, Holben's Fine Watches' goal has been happy customers. img src=http://www.nwlink.com/~holben/advertomega2.jpg> Among watch collectors, the Omega Watch Co. of Switzerland, a firm founded by Louis Brandt of Biel in 1848, is one of the most renowned brands of timepieces. In 1894 a new caliber bore the name of Omega for the first time, and since then it has produced some of the finest caliber wristwatches money can buy. Omega is my favorite Swiss watch firm as well, combining those qualities of name brand recognition, high quality and relative value that are important to the seasoned watch collector.p>I am pleased to offer for sale the following men's Omega timepiece, an excellent and originalSEAMASTER 600 calendar model from ca 1964. This quadruple-signed model (dial, crystal, case and movement) features an excellent and untouched original dial and venerable 601 caliber mechanism, the latter being engineered and fabricated completely in-house by Omega. It is a 135.011 reference model.
Its 14kt Yellow Gold Electroplated case measures <u40mm lug tip to lug tip and 35mm in width (36.5mm with unmarked winding crown). This works out to be just shy of 1-5/8 inches long by 1-3/8 inches wide, not counting the crown. It has been <bfully serviced to ensure its 17 Jewel, 2 Adjustment manual wind mechanism winds and sets smoothly while keeping accurate time.
The 100% original silver, finely brushed enamel finish dial is in flawless condition, guaranteed untouched since it left the Omega factory on this very watch. Features include a 60 second outer chapter, raised gold finished hour markers, original gold finished hands with tritium inserts and sweep original gold center seconds hand. Signed OMEGA with raised gold trademark Omega symbol below the 12 and <bSeamaster 600/b above the 6. It is further signed T SWISS MADE T at the base of the dial.
The original, Omega-signed hardened acrylic (armored) crystal is in excellent overall condition with just a few fine scratches hard to see with the naked eye. This crystal is indeed signed, with a tiny OMEGA SYMBOL in the center, visible with a magnifying loupe only. The original two-piece Omega Seamaster case features a 14 Karat Gold Electroplated case with a 40 micron thickness, double what was normal in the 1960s. It is in excellent PLUS shape with absolutely no brassing, scratches or wear. The unmarked winding crown is a later replacement (albeit vintage) in excellent shape, winding and setting smoothly.
Turning the watch over I find that the screw-down back lid is stainless steel and marked with the Seamaster logo in finely engraved detail. This lid does show some light scratches from someone slipping while trying to open the lid but they are fairly light and the lid itself still retains its satin/brush finish t hat it left the factory with. As such I chose not to try and remove them as the detailing of the Seamaster name and logo are crisp. Inside I find a spotless rose gold finished mechanism that is signed Omega Watch Co., Swiss [Caliber] 601, Seventeen 17 Jewels – Adjusted Two (2) Positions. The serial number is #21,525,812, dating the watch to ca 1964 as per published Omega production records (these records are accurate +/- one to two years). The inside of the case back is finely engine turned and signed OMEGA WATCH CO., FAB. SUISSE, SWISS MADE, CARRURE LUNETTE, PLAQUE ORG 40 MICRONS, FOND ACIER IN OXYDABLE, 135.011 with the Compressor logo below.
This watch has been fully serviced so you can be assured that it winds and sets smoothly while keeping very accurate time. It comes fitted on new, high quality 18mm black deBeer Paris crocodile grain, handcrafted leather strap with matching gold finished, unmarked buckle. Whether it be a Seamaster, Constellation or De Ville, all watch lovers need to have at least one Omega in his or her collection. I think the understated (timeless) elegance of this pristine example is worth a second (or third) look!p<ulli>Since 1998, Holben's Fine Watches' goal has been happy customers.
