This role sits in the Fundraising team within Oxfam New Zealand’s (ONZ) Engagement Directorate. The Engagement Directorate’s role is to engage, educate and publicise the work of Oxfam within New Zealand so as to create more supporters who do more, give more and stay connected longer.

The Fundraising team is responsible for supporter recruitment, retention and care. The team includes individual giving activities including regular giving development, tele-fundraising, appeals (DM and eDM), unwrapped as well as major giving, bequests, trusts and community fundraising.

JOB PURPOSE

Be responsible for raising funds for Oxfam’s programming and advocacy work by achieving agreed income targets from Oxfam’s current and new supporters though major gifts and bequests.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILTIES

Major Donors

·  Execute the major donor strategy for existing and new supporters generally giving over $5,000 annually by way of meeting agreed major gift campaign goals and income targets.

·  Engage with key supporters, influencing their decisions to join regular or pledge giving programmes and negotiate their level of commitment. This includes:

o  Appropriately packaging programme funding needs in a meaningful way to interest them,

o  Making outbound calls to prospective key supporters to request permission to send product proposals, and encouraging them to commit to a regular or pledge giving programme or make one-off gifts,

o  Meeting with and negotiating a level of ongoing financial support,

o  Sending regular and engaging personalised communications by mail, email and phone,

o  Completing follow up communications for due and missed donations and supplying progress reports in a timely manner.

·  Support and input into the development of strategies to engage with current key supporters which maintain, extend and/or increase their level of financial support.

·  Prospect, engage and solicit support from potential high net worth individuals. This includes:

o  Following up leads for existing supporters from other networks/contacts,

o  Cross-marketing to other Oxfam products (e.g. relevant Oxfam Trailwalker event participants),

o  Using publicly available information to build prospect understanding,

o  Liaising with the Database Executive about criteria for prospect selection, reviewing and applying these as applicable,

o  Using publicly available information to build prospect understanding.

·  Liaise regularly with the Partnerships team and develop suitable proposals and reports for major donor stewardship.

·  Develop and deliver supporter events for major givers (and bequestors) with support from the Fundraising Manager and the other Key Relationships Executive.

Bequests

·  Support the Fundraising Manager in developing and executing the Bequest Strategy. This includes meeting agreed bequest goals and income targets.

·  Promote bequest giving to supporters through a range of communication channels, including public presentations.

·  Work with the Digital Manager on strategies to increase bequest enquiries through digital streams.

·  Develop and maintain ongoing communications with bequest enquirers and confirmed bequestors, with the aim of retaining and deepening their commitment to Oxfam.

·  Prospect, engage and solicit bequest support from supporters who are most likely to have an interest in bequest giving. This includes:

o  Following up leads generated by other teams,

o  Championing the inclusion of bequest messaging in Oxfam communications,

o  Liaising with the CRM Executive about criteria for prospect selection, reviewing and applying these as applicable,

o  Actively seeking opportunities to speak about Oxfam bequest giving to groups.

General

·  Pass corporate partnerships leads to the Business Relationships Executive for further development.

·  Be responsive to questions and requests from supporters and update supporter records as necessary.

·  Keep abreast of developments and informed of Oxfam’s programming work. This includes:

o  Proactively and regularly engaging with relevant members of the Partnerships and Advocacy & Campaigns teams,

o  Reading relevant documents, reports and other programme updates,

o  Attending meetings and other forums where Oxfam programming work or priorities are discussed.

·  Undertake any other duties that may be delegated by the Fundraising Manager that are in keeping with the scope of the role.

·  Engage in Oxfam affiliate learnings by way of major donor and bequest working groups and apply insights to ONZ activities.

COMPETENCIES

Experience, knowledge and qualifications

·  3-5 years’ experience in fundraising and/or account management

·  Good experience of and demonstrated success in relationship fundraising including good knowledge of major donor and bequest giving

·  Experience and/or a good working knowledge of Microsoft Excel

·  Demonstrated knowledge of fundraising principles

·  Relevant tertiary qualification or equivalent commensurate work experience

·  Active interest in and/or awareness of Oxfam’s international development and humanitarian work

·  Excellent telephone and written communication skills

·  Demonstrated ability to meet targets and operate effectively in a target driven environment

·  Good general computer skills including intermediate level Microsoft Excel

HOURS

The role requires regular evening working, typically every few weeks. This is so the postholder can make contact with key supporters when they are available. Start and end times will be adjusted accordingly, as part of an agreed alternative work pattern.
