Letter to our Parents at the start of the new school year, August 2013
Dear Parent,
On behalf of the Owen J. Roberts Music Parents Organization (MPO) we would like to extend a warm welcome to you. We are excited that you will be part of our music family here at Owen J. Roberts Middle and High Schools this coming year, and we are thrilled to share with you more about our programs.
Aspecial welcome to all our new parents. We are very proud of the music program at OJR and you will experience how your child will grow and develop in his/her music knowledge, team work, discipline, etc. over the next few years in our music family.
Many school districts in our surrounding area have cut back on their music programs, however at OJR we are growing from strength to strength. One of the main reasons is the involvement of our parents. Without the support of our parents, we will not experience the growth in the number of kids participating in our music programs, we will be unable to do the fundraising necessary to sustain our programs, and we will be unable to participate in the annual OJR Cavalcade, marching band competitions, football games and many more.
In short, we need your help to ensure our music program remains strong. The MPO offers many opportunities where you can get involved. As a start, we ask that you join the MPO as a member. Our annual family membership donations begin with a minimum of $25 per family and increase to $50, $75, $100 and more. On the next page you will see what your membership dollars do.(Please complete page three of this letter).
The next step is to get involved in volunteering.The MPO covers many areas where we need the help of parent volunteers. We know that it might be unknown and uncomfortable at the outset to volunteer. However we will offer the support you need. After all, we are part of the same music family and we want to help you grow, enjoy the time with your child in the music program and ensure continuity.We need volunteers in the following areas:(Please complete page three of this letter)

Cavalcade:The Big Show! On Saturday, October 5th, we host The 43st Annual Cavalcade of Bands with 12 visiting bands. Lots of volunteers are needed in all areas from traffic control to manning the candy-gram booth. It's our primary fund raiser.
Chaperones: Spend some time with the kids. Join the band during football games, competitions, the Elverson Halloween parade and the West Chester Holiday parade.
Concessions:Feed the Hungry.Serve food at the MPO concession stand (we have our own) during games. All profits benefit the band!
Field Equip. & Props:Be a roadie! Build show props and set up the field for the band’s performances.
Fund Raising:Work from home! Cheesecake sales, pasta dinner,restaurant nights and more.
Pretzel Sales: Go back to school. Sales are in the High School and Middle School from 1:30 – 2:30 on Wednesdays.
Uniforms:Dress ‘em up. Your help is needed to keep the kids looking great.
Video Production:Parents needed to videotape performances, rehearsals, and unscripted moments. Record video for the marching band and color guard DVD.
