Over 2,000 to community projects from new Bingley Town Council grant scheme.

New goalposts for young footballers in Eldwick, a defibrillator for Micklethwaite and anti-dog fouling publicity materials are the first three projects to be awarded grants from Bingley Town Council.

The council is giving:

  • £1,068 to Eldwick Juniors, half the cost of a set of new aluminium goals
  • £1,000 to Micklethwaite Village Society, half the cost of a new defibrillator for the village
  • £150 to Bingley Green Dog Walkers for materials to promote responsible dog ownership and stop dog fouling.

Councillor Marcus Dearden, Chairman of Bingley Town Council’s Finance and General Purposes committee, said: “All these projects meet the criteria for grant funding as they come from community groups and enhance the well-being of residents and their environment within Bingley Parish. The grants will make a positive difference and we look forward to receiving more applications for the next round of grants.”

Stuart Wilson from Eldwick Juniors, said: “The grant from Bingley Town Council has enabled the club to invest in much needed equipment for a growing junior football club. The new equipment will have a significantly longer lifespan than the equipment it will replace, not only benefiting players in the present season but for those who have yet to join the club.

“The Grant will enable the club to provide the facilities and equipment to its players to achieve their full potential, regardless of background or ability.”

Graham Hey of Micklethwaite Village Society said the community was very grateful for the grant to help fund the installation of a defibrillator.

Mr Hey said: “Access for ambulances and fast response medical vehicles can be hampered at times by either poor weather conditions, breakdown of the swing bridge over the canal or potentially the impending building works for the new development on Greenhill. The installation of a defibrillator will definitely help reduce the risk for the community in these situations.”

Julie Ramsden, from Bingley Green Dog Walkers, said: “A big thank you to the new Town Council for our grant. A big thank you too to all our supporters and followers who are helping us deliver a cleaner Bingley to work and play. This grant means we are able to continue ourcampaign for cleaner streets, pavements and parks in thecommunity.”

Bingley Town Council has allocated £13,000, 10% of its budget raised through the precept, to the grant scheme for 2016-17. Grants are decided three times a year – in February, June and October. Grants may complement other sources of funding and this is encouraged. The next deadline for applications is 1st February 2017, however applicants are encouraged to get in touch with the Town Clerk well ahead of the deadline to ensure their application is complete and has the greatest chance of success.
